Vertical Oil Cooler Mounting

Recommended Posts

koti

Possibly a stupid question, but does it matter which way an oil cooler is mounted (I.e. vertical/horizontal)?

I'm just fabricating some oil cooler mounts on my mi16 project and the cooler fits best with my rad and fans when it's vertical, rather than horizontal.

The engine makes good oil pressure as it is, which I don't want to lose if I can help it!

Cheers,

Tim

I have mine mounted vertical, I haven't had any issues.

This is how I have mine mounted, using a different lower radiator mount.

It either needs to be mounted with the pipes coming out of the top or vertical with the return pipe at the top

It makes no difference.

I've mounted them in pretty much every orientation you can imagine without any problem.

If I was doing vertical as illustrated, then I'd put the feed at the bottom and outlet at the top.

If its mounted with the pipes on the bottom or the return at the bottom, then the air that's in will never bleed out
