205Gti6 Starting Model

Recommended Posts

I'm planning to build a 205 with a gti6 conversion for a track toy up until now I've been looking for a strait rolling gti shell to begin the conversion but with Gti's seeming rarer for a low price I was wondering what am I achieving by say starting with a rolling 1.9 gti chasis over say a base model?

My mate Ryan in Bicester will have the complete conversion for sale soon.

Only thing that needs tidying up is the loom.

It's a non sunroof shell by the way but there's a fair bit of rust

nothing from a gti you cant bolt to a base spec but you may have troubles when it comes to the wiring side of things but nothing is impossible

imo it will cost about the same once you have brough gti suspension (subframe, wishbones, driveshafts rear beam)

Mike, I may have a caged shell that you could use. I believe it is straight but I am likely to buy the car for the supercharger kit and plate diff, so lots will still be available.

May sound odd question but did he buy a refurbed 306 beam and also buy some white cyclones? As a guy brought my beam then brought my wheels but from a mate and said he had a 205 but my mate never got his number? Any ideas what he's looking for? I'm only in Aylesbury so maybe worth a look if cheap enough

Sounds interesting dependant on price etc could very well be interested

Cool thanks that was my thoughts as may be easier to find a shell that's had a easier life

Basically if you want to use a base model you have to swap :

Dash wiring

Rear section of wiring due to the fuel pump

Fuel tank and lines

Engine loom side of things

That's for starters

You don't have to chabge the rear wiring, just the loom that goes from the clocks, fog/hazard/cig lighter onto the fuse box, and as said the complete engine bay looms.

Obviously you'll also want to change the beam and front sub frame, fuel lines are routed different on tu to xu cars also. It's not that much work, the only disadvantage I can see is the lack of arch space for wheels.

Are the arches smaller on a base model then? Never would of thought that but good to know, at the min I'm probably swaying more to a gti then

Will It not be more expensive to buy all the parts separate , rather than a gti rolling shell

what kind of budget are you on ?

Yeah again that's my thoughts as being new to the 205 a rolling chasis is a must so I can replace parts rather than trying to figure out every little bolt I need etc, as for budget as little as pos again dependant on how much is with it, missed a rolling shell with uprated suspension for £375 on eBay as couldn't get my bid it at the end :(

Gti will be an easier starting point.
