Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum.. Just collected a 1.9 205 GTI

A silly question, or two..as I'm new to pugs

How can I tell which variant I have?.. It does state 1.9 GTI but are there different types?

Also the back doesn't have the black strip with badges, it has a (red strip with Peugeot GTI) I have bought the original black strip of ebay, and currently bidding on badges, but any idea why mine is different?.. Anybody know if it's after market?

Marty

Is your strip on the back the red reflective kind?

Hi Marty, what you have is the red reflective which was a genuine accessory from Peugeot that's fitted to your car. If you put up some pics of your car, inside and engine bay as well, then we can let you know what you have, as the colours and trim varied in the models and over the years.

A 1.9 will normally have electric windows, half leather seats, disc brakes all round and 15" wheels.

You can normally tell if its a 1.9 engine too because there is spacer between the sump and engine block.

Of course all of these parts could have been added to a 1.6 over the years so its hard to tell if it is a factory 1.9...

The reflective strip was a original peugeot accessory. If you aren't keen whip it off and put it on ebay. They seem to make good money on there. I'm keeping the 3 I have for a pension :)

Rev it, a 1.6 will pickup revs quick, a 1.9 will seem lazy.(ish)

Edit; seems you' ve established its a 1.9 but possible original 1.6.

As above, electrics may be optional on 1.6 but standard on 1.9.

Rear disk and sump spacer are giveaways of a genuine 1.9, as are injector colour.

Yellow for 1.9?

I dont think the original poster is asking whether it's a 1.6 or a 1.9! He's bought a 1.9 and is asking if there are different variants of it.

Hi guys ..maybe I'm being too clear!!.. It is a 1.9, sunroof no power steering, discs all round. I wasn't sure if there are different 1.9's..

Ask me about BMW's and I will or should be able to get you the answer lol

My reg is G202 UUF - Can you tell much by the no plate?

I prefer the black strip, which I've bought but just wondered why this had the different one. . Pics once I get onto the pc, phone saying they are too large

The red rear strip was a period accessory. Luckily for you worth decent money second hand so if it is not your taste you should be able to easily sell it to recoup the cost of changing your car back to standard.

A G plate, will have a different interior and lights than a later model, at least all the ones I've owned have had.

205's had several different phases, a g plate is generally regarded as phase 1.5, grey trim, yellow indicators, different rear light cluster and grey leather on the seats.

there may be a few late 'g' ones that have the later black trim/interior and clear lights tho or a mix of both.

With looking at your pictures Marty, it looks a very standard and unmolested example with everything still intact. What's your plans for it, if any? Hard to see but I'm not sure if you have an original spare wheel basket.

As far as your car goes, it's a phase 1.5 in red the same as mine. It has the metal cam cover as well, so the engine should be original,so it hasn't been mixed up with different eras of cars, which can happen over the years. It's all there with the original grey dash, gear knob and steering wheel, red carpet and the seats are correct pattern, although the leather may have been changed/repaired at a time on the drivers seat, which is normal on these, due to bolster wearing. Your lights are all correct for the "year" as well, bar the front driving lights, which you can get on eBay or the likes.

I thought (without being 100%) that it was as you describe. Yes the drivers seat was recently done he said, he also recently put new disks all round, and replaced the back axle with a conditioned one he got online.

I am well pleased with my find.

My only plan is to change the back strip and clean up the paintwork, other than that it stays as it is!

Be very careful removing the red strip if you intend to sell it and recoup some funds for the car, as the plastic can go quite brittle and snap upon removal - especially depending on how it's fitted to the tailgate.

Welcome Marty. Looks like a well looked after example and nice to hear you plan on keeping it original.
