Oh my god my engine is 6kgs heavier, thats loads,im going to rip my turbo out and fit a GTI6 now then.As slo said not much in it.

How ever you look at this both are SIMILAR weight and similar power, you will never get a definitive answer on this,i like both but i picked the turbo to be a little different and havent regretted it despite all the suggested down sides, the extra weight isnt really that noticable but you will have the same impact on handling if you fitted a GTI6 lump so really its totally up to you.

Ha ha yeah, I lifted a 1900 8 valve into my boot the other day without too much hassle on my own, tried moving 2.0 a few yards and found it near impossible. I think if it was me and I had to choose between these two engines I would definitely choose the GTi-6 on bodies or carbs ( I know Welshpug I said carbs he he...) ;)

That's just the engine, not counting the intercooler etc.

Don't forget Intercoolers and all that crap cost quite a bit.

May cost a bit but still dont weight that much

all adds up! 5-6 kilos here, few hundred g there, knocking a few BHP off your BHP/TON each g you add.

I agree Mei, I think a nice simple tubular manifold on a GTi-6 v the turbo manifold/turbo on the 2.0 is probably quite a significant difference...

I get that but iv not seen any difference in performance between the 2 engines, surely that comes down to the extra torque you get with the turbo engine, everyone gets hung up on BHP but torque is also a big player in that,im not sure what the torque is on the gti6 but im sure you will enlighten me.

surely though its easyer and cheaper to get more bhp and tourqe from a turbo engine.

my last gti6 had bodies cams and omex managment making 216bhp but cost me best part of £2000,

ive seen posts of 200 bhp just from turning the boost up.

Agreed Damian, its amazing how many races are won on an engine with good torque and in the real world of road driving even more so. I have chatted with Miles on this for a while now and we still feel the ally 1900 8v with turbo conversion is hard to beat all round....

I agree with turbo charging the standard engine,Tom fentons is a very good example,1.6 and kicks out more power than mine, but the draw back for me was cost,if parts were easy to come by i would have done that.

I do kind of agree with this, can get more power very easily out turbo engines but im always a little worried on how far you can push them before they go bang, just turning the boost up on its own isnt really for me,although i know a lot of people do it.

Its quite a pig of a conversion, pipes, wiring etc... whereas the GTi-6 is quite neat. The turbo does not seem to tune easily past 200-210 hp with out spending money, people on here seem to have got 240 ish but quite a bit of work. I didn't like mine (weight/performance) hence why I'm going to 1900 turbo.

if thats the lighter 1.9 turbo the gti6 would have the edge over the 2.0 turbo then in power to weight.

Probably but depends on what spec the cars were... going back to your original question, I think also you have to take into account that if the 2.0 turbo had a good turbo/manifold from standard then it would be easier to tune cheaply but its not great and the first mod I would do is bin the manifold/turbo and fit a T25 or 28 and then start modifying. But then that costs....

That was a stripped out GTI 6 against henry yorkes CTI which is 60kgs heavier than a GTI and also is not stripped out, think that was quite poor for the GTI6 tbh,

How come you cant hear the dump valve? Is it piped into the inlet?

I bet the cti electric roof weighs more than the roof of a tin top including its glass and the missing half of the tailgate.

Ahh so its plumbed into the air filter* as original

The standard valve is a silly whoosh thing too you just dont hear it if its plumbed into the air filter how it should be.
