205 Turbo Vs Gti6

Recommended Posts

tommy gun

hi all im back on the 205 scene, just cant stay away.

ive got my hands on a track ready shell but im unsure what engine to fit?

ive had gti6 lumps before and there are good reliable engines but, i feel like going down the 2.0 8v turbo engine this time.

if any one is close to stoke on trent and has a 205 turbo who feels like taking me for a drive it would be greatly appreciated.

You will have started something now,que the turbo haters.

A couple of friends had a blast a while ago,one was Danpug on here in his GTI6 and the other was a friend in a 205 2.0 turbo with a diesel box and to be honest they were pretty evenly matched.Iv got a 2.0 turbo in my 309 and really like it,even if it isnt any quicker than a GTI6 engined one the feel of the boost definatly gives you the feeling it is,i would say if you have tried the GTI6 and fancy taking a different route this time then do it,i dont think you will regret it.

Massive thumbs up from me before the haters stomp all over us. Plenty of help to go round too.

im sure there will be haters from both sides, ive done quite a lot of searching and it seems like theres no clear winner.

You cant beat the sound of a gti6 the same way you cant beat being slams you in to the seat by a turbo.

If it's purely a track car I wouldn't even consider the turbo, road car maybe... I'm a hater though and I'm holding back :P

I'm not interested in racing anyone or anything and 100mph is more than fast enough for me, I would just like to feel the girth an mi16 and gti 6 has compared to turbo as I have no comparison other than the 1.9 mine originally had :/

are 8v turbos quite smooth with the power delivery then, ive read a few things about them being like a turbo diesel.

i would want it to pin me in the seat like my old scooby did when that came on boost.

No flat out, I don't think anyone would feel too safe going over 100mph in a tin box. I'm on edge on motorways just knowing i've got bags of power from the nuclear reactor to get me out of trouble but also into a hell of a lot of danger too!!!

Tommy mines quite smooth but being heavy and only 2 litre you have to work it hard for it to give its best and it doesn't scrimp on the fuel consumption when giving it the tits

Not had either but had Mi16 and 1.9 TT and they were evenly matched ;)

I like all types but would not go near the 2.0 turbo, a horrid conversion, weighs so... much and not much power to be had without spending. Just taken one out of one of mine and have fitted the original ally 8 Valve back in and will turbo that soon. Such a shame there will be very few 8 valvers left soon, but understand the reliability and the out of the box performance of the GTI-6 :)

It's almost the same block with a 16v head on it so weights will be similar

And its not always about power, weight makes such a difference to how a car handles/performs, never been a fan of putting loads of weight up front even if it has more power..but each to their own. I just couldn't justify keeping that tank of an engine in there when there were lighter more tunable options in the form of the original ally 8v 1.9. There are some very good articles on here for 1.6,1.9 turbos.... superchargers and still retaining some originality of an 8v. :D

Plus the windmill, intercooler, pipe work.........

If you want to split hairs the head is half the size of the gti6 minus 1 camshaft 8 valves and in comparison a huge inlet manifold side by side cant see weight difference being much
