My Long Overdue Rebuild Project

Hey everyone,

 

After reading endless project threads of some beautifully restored 205s I've decided it's time to do my own.

 

My dad originally bought the car after writing off his standard looking S16 powered 205. Although not to his taste styling wise, it already had an mi16 lump in it along with upgraded suspension brakes etc, so the bodywork could be changed later. I on the otherhand loved it, slammed on 17s, spoiler, side skirts, loud exhaust, you can imagine!. (in my defence i was only 18 and thought 205s like that were the dogs).

It ended up staying like that for a couple of years, then the big end bearing shells started knocking, wrecking the crank and a piston. That was 12 years ago and it's been lying in my garage ever since.

 

Shell is solid apart from surface rust in all the ususal places, under the boot floor, around axle etc etc. The plans are for a complete overhaul, bodywork back to standard (got some taste now that i'm older), suspension with the uprated mods as recommended from the many threads on here, brakes and keeping the mi16 in it, possibly with some performance upgrades.

Hopefully i'll be able to make a start to it while i'm off for xmas.

Great car to start with. Looks solid. The interior is all there too which is nice.

 

Keep all the old bumper/wings etc as they could be fun in 20years time!

 

Rebuild it to standard spec. Much cooler and more value in it. It will also be easy to sell if you ever need to.

 

If you do keep the mi16, there are a few things you can do to hot it up a little if a rebuild I'd one the cards. Plenty of info available if you need it

The body will be Cam, but the running gear won't!

 

 

So I started the strip down yesterday to get a better idea of whats needing done.

Unsure about this bit seems to have came out in a perfect circle, only undeseal holding it on.

I'm sure someone on here can set me straight.

Was worried what the sills might look like under the side skirts, but seems to have kept them in good condition.

Will get the engine out and the axle and fuel tank off next and get started on taking off all the underseal.

Binned it john! It was an aftermarket alpine one anyway, not a factory one.
