5 Months With No Faults! Now Ive Got No Lights!

Recommended Posts

Telf

hi all,

So ive had 5 months trouble free motoring with my 205

This morning I turned on my lights and nothing happened- ive checked the fuse- Ive cleaned all the earths around the front of the engine bay. then I noticed there appears to be no supply at the main headlight bulbs-so not an earth issue.

I had a look at the 2 small relays on the right hand side of the fuse box- I think 1 is the driving lamp relay the other the dimdip relay, so I swapped them over as they are the same type but no luck

Im using the wiring diagram on page 369 of the workshop manual, and I think that maybe its the actual switch on the drivers column that's broken

does anybody have any experience with a total light failure like this? any help would be great. as a side note the indicators and brake lights are fine- but the fog lamp doesn't work either

thanks for reading

paul

It is worth checking the plug that was loose for signs of melting/burning. Every time I've seen a problem with a loose plug there it's been caused by running high wattage headlight bulbs and the trouble sometimes only occurs long after the bulbs have been removed.

I will check the plug later today and make sure all is ok. I see you live quite near me jackherer-don't see many pugs around my area- infact can only think of one apart from my own-what you drive I will keep an eye out! :)

I'm between Ipswich and Colchester, not far from the Essex border, if you drive past my house you'll see a load of 205s but I only have a silver one on the road at the moment. I see a surprising number of non GTI 205s in the Ipswich area, there are two in my village alone, but I don't see many GTIs. The last one I saw was probably about two years ago now, I was in a red 205 waiting to turn right through a gap in the central reservation of the A12 and had to wait for a GTI to pass before I could cross the opposite lane.

you have a black / sorrento one Jack? I remember seeing one when I was in my 205 diesel around your way a few years back. My inlaws live around the boxted area so I am that way a lot. it was on some back roads. Also seen a silver one and a grey one about around sudbury in the last few years but thats about it. Shame.

I had a sorrento a few years ago but not since I've lived here. The silver one is a recent addition too, the last one I was running was white and I had a friends red one for a long time too.

Mines a red one on a G plate-daily useage between woodbridge and Bury St Ed- so usually on the A14 or north part of the A12, I will keep an eye out
