Main/full Beam Randomly Not Working Sometimes.

Recommended Posts

FireFly

My 205 has HID's fitted, recently the main and full beam have started to not work randomly.

By this I mean I could go start the car now and they be fine, then start it in thirty minutes time and they could not be working!

Incredibly dangerous when wanting to travel anywhere in the dark (which is 4:15 onwards at the moment)!

The side lights tend to work no matter what and all other lights work fine except for the heater cluster/panel back-light that are also intermittent.

I've been suggested to grease the light stalk up, how is this removed? Undo the cowling that covers the top and bottom of the steering wheel, remove it, rip it apart, grease it, reverse procedure?

Have you given the earth points a wiggle?

Have you given the earth points a wiggle?

Nope, where would these be?

Only wiggling I've done is the positive that connects straight up to the battery.

Behind the head lamps mate pretty much.

They might be covered in a clear yellow bag

I had the same headlight problem a while back(got a new one now but that's besides the point)- it was the earth points- I pulled the plugs off the mounting brackets- put a dab of lemon juice on the contacts to clean them and hey presto

no more problems

also ive had the long yellow plug on the fuse box work loose which caused an intermittent fault on all the lights-sometimes coming on sometimes not

I'd sack the HID's off tbh, get some good quality H4 bulbs in there and sort the earths as mentioned.

Haven't been able to look at it due to work still but bought a 6000k kit last night off eBay for £31 so either way should get it sorted!

Were they fitted when you bought it?

Yes they were. The alternator died yesterday, the sub, then radio, then headlights (which I've now replaced for standard H4's) died in turn.

Think it could of been the first signs of the alternator dying to be fair.
