Water Pumps

Recommended Posts

Kane

I bought a new water pump (quinton hazell) a while ago for my 1.9 8 valve but ended up picking up an mi16 to put in the 205 instead. With it being a different engine I went and bought another pump which was sold to me as being for an xu9j4 1.9 88-92. When it turned up it was the exact same pump at the previous one I'd bought.

Now looking at the original pump that came off the engine its clear that the two pumps are different as the mi one has a guard on it, I'm assuming to prevent crap getting up around the timing belt.

My question is would it be ok to use the pump I have without the guard? I was planning on making a fibreglass section to extend the black plastic cover anyway but wanted to make sure the pumps don't differ greatly in terms of performance.

Thanks

Kane

For what they cost (e.g not much) I personally would just get the correct pump and be done with it.
