Colour Change Yes/no

Recommended Posts

mrfirepro

Guy's a bit of help is needed, my car will be back with me in the new year and will be a blank canvas (following acid dipping & coating) soooooo

Should I change the colour (it's currently red)

Things in my mind are..

Is there a rarer colour..(which may be more desirable in the future)

Will it be devalued not being the original colour

I really like the grey and Miami Blue.... Oh and the green

The red seems to have suffered badly from the sun

Is there anything else I should worry about or consider?

Best to keep it original surely - the gun metal grey was always the best colour in my view, low profile and understated, with morette lights (indicators moved to bumper) which made the front of the car look wider, especially at night. If you keep the car red then the matching rare reflective bootlid panel makes a nice touch.

This is surely hard as I am in just the same situation.

Me on the otherhand love red. I have a Sorrento green and find it really boring as the when its cloudy or no light outside enough its boring dark green and at night it looks black. The only time it is nice is when it a super bright sunny day and the pearl in the green makes the color to live. Other than that I hate.

Love Lasergreen but know a lot of ppl are anti that unless its a Griffe. Gun metal grey, silver, miami blue and red are my other favourites on a 205 if my opinion counts ;)

So as you dont like red i would vote gun metal grey or miami blue. Do love how the 205 looks updated in the miami blue. I guess green is out of the picture for you cause you would need to change the interior to the black and green one to get a perfect match. I got the black and green interior so im bascially stuck with only green colors unless i can be bothered hunting down a red interior with a black dash which would be something new.

Without trying to steal your thread do pls answer me back on your thoughts of me going lasergreen or red on mine ;)

Really great point, glad I asked the question as I didn't think about the interior at all...phew. Which colours came with the red interior?

The green I talk about is the laser green, Tom fenton's looks fantastic

it's not that I don't like red but a vast majority of these cars are red (I've never been one to follow the crowd) and it doesn't seem to last well. Even the one I owned in 1992 was starting to show signs of fading

Were all the colours available in 1989...Miami Blue. Laser Green and Gunmetal Grey

Also want to consider the resale value, not that this is about money but don't want to do something that will limit the appeal in the future.

Off the top of my head Miami and Topaz blue as well as Sorrento green were introduced 1990, Laser 1991 and the lighter grey (Steel rather than the darker graphite) late 1990. So, if you were after a period colour they wouldn't do, but otherwise I think you're safe!

The green interiors were certainly fitted to Steel Grey, Sorrento and Laser cars.

According to the buyers guide book, Steel, Laser and Topaz are worth +15% over the others as they're lesser seen but how true that is I don't know.

If you go for a period colour I personally think a good Alpine White paintjob looks ace!

Don't discount red, when it truly is cherry red and not cherry orange, I think it looks good.

I personally would also want to keep it the standard colour. If you wanted a Miami or Laser or whatever to restore then for me you should start with one! Maybe an odd view I know.

Tom,

As you've got the laser green and the Red, which do you prefer.

Also it seems that all the colours I liked were introduced after 1989, which would bother me on the authenticity side..

It's such a personal thing to be honest, I've always bought 205's as they came up rather than choosing a particular colour. I can remember maybe 12 years ago I knew a lad with a laser green 205, at the time I wasn't keen at all, but I now really like it, good job really.

cherry red must have black mirrors though. come to think of it they all should. colour coding should be left to the ford boys :D

I quite like the colour coded mirrors. Brings them upto date and more inline with the 90's peugeots. A nice mod for a oem+ look. Though I can't imagine it would work with all colours.

I had my engine bay painted in Toyota Supra white (all that was left)

It came up really white.

I would suggest what, but maybe i'm biased

Difficult choice, I'd hate to have to choose one colour as my favorite if I was in your position of having a blank canvas, I don't think they did a bad colour.

I'd be inclined to agree with Tom in so far as I wouldn't paint it something it wasn't originally....ie. make it a Miami/Lazer etc.

Red would look good but, if I was starting from a blank canvas I think that I would like to try a more modern colour (maybe still from Peugeot). A slight modernisation of an original colour.

I did think for a long time that I'd like a Diablo 205, however now I don't think that it looks so good....

If you are doing an OE rebuild then stick to an OE colour, or as said something near an original colour but slighly more modern. Steel Grey look great. Matt Black looks pants, and hard to live with. My current fav is a nice gloss white.

Just nothing too in your face...

I think it depends to a point on the paint job.

If you're just blowing over the outside, then it's really got to be the original colour (or one very close)

If you've stripped it to a completely bare shell inside and out, and can hence paint everything properly, then maybe change the colour.

The one thing that I think look awful on cars that have been sprayed a difference colour is when they've done a half job and you can still see the original colour in places - engine bay, wheel arches, door shuts, boot floor etc. Even worse if the body wasn't stripped properly and it's been sprayed with glass, trim, bumpers etc still fitted and masked off.

I'm quite lucky in a way as I tend to like 205 GTi's in most of the factory colours, and like Tom and others above, I've tended to buy based on condition and what's around when I've been looking to buy rather than wanting a particular colour. As it is I've ended up with two black 205's currently and I don't even particularly like black cars

Thanks good comments, I guess...

1. It must be a colour that was available in 1989, Does anyone know what these were?

2. It must be a colour that came with the red interior? again does anyone know which these were?
