Flywheel Touching Crank Sensor

Recommended Posts

arwel

I have a 1.9 mi16 in the 205 with a BE3 box. Since we did the conversion it's always had a lumpy/misfire idle. Its never bothered me as it doesnt affect it when driving. Today we've taken the gearbox out to change the cwp to a 4.9 and we noticed the crank sensor has roughly 1mm groove in the centre and all the teeth on the flywheel ring gear show evidence that they have been coming into contact with eachother. Is this normal or should there be a space between them? I've tried searching but i cant find anything and was puzzling if this would potentially cause the lumpy idle.

No it shouldn't be touching - it sits close, but certainly shouldn't touch!

Thanks for the reply Anthony. Think a spacer or something needs to be added then just to get them away from each other

You shouldn't need to space it out - whilst I'm sure that'll work, I'd be looking at why it's touching in the first place. Are the dowels in place between the engine and box?

Ahh right. I was thinking maybe it would need spacing because the BE3 box was originally with an 8v engine which don't run crank sensors. Even though the location hole was there on this box I thought maybe it had been done a bit too deep so the sensor sat lower in the casing. Everything is there as it should be so not sure why its being doing that.

Engine blocks are all basically the same 8 & 16v, Just the webbing and drilling's that vary.

Is it a pattern/motor factor sensor?

Im not too sure really. It came with the engine along with a spare one but they both look identical.
