Glow Plug Recommendations

Recommended Posts

Liquid_106

Not for a Pug, but I'd have thought that a manufacturer would make decent plugs for more than one manufacturer / model.

Eurocarparts stocks Denso, BERU and Bosch - all about £16 with BERU about £1.50 more.

All are about £6 cheaper on CarPartsForLess, but really need them this weekend so need to be able to pick up rather than wait for delivery next week, so that's out :(

GSF also stock the BERU, but at roughly £12

So are BERU any good? Have to say I've never heard of them so not sure if they're worthwhile or not.

Thought about asking on LandyZone, but the general response to Freelander problems is 'Burn it!' :P

Cheers for any advice / suggestions B)

Beru is o.e for most pugs, they make 40% of the world's glow plugs apparently.

I fitted a set to mum's 405 about ten years ago, she still has the car and it still starts great.

As above, BERU are OEM for some big name companies, BMW are one I know for definite.

Thanks all for the recommendations, I went with the BERU from GSF in the end and they look like, well glow plugs :P

Shame the fitting didn't go to plan :(

If it was a football game, the score would be a 2-2 draw. Couldn't even get one of the caps off (plug nearest engine mount) and the one next to it snapped the nut off the plug so had no way to remove it.

The other two went fine, but still fed up with the pile of crap.

She can take it to the garage from now on as I don't fancy the idea of working on the dirty old TD ever again!

Anyway, thanks again for the input B)

I would take the Bosch duraterms.

They have (at least for the Pug 407 Hdi) a narrower tip than the Berus, which seem to have the same diameter shaft all the way out.

Hence when removing later on the Beru ones is more likely to snap of due to carbon build up than the Bosch ones.

It can be seen here, Bosch at the top, Beru bottom.

Removing old plugs can be a pain in the ass and sometimes if they break it's a head off job, so I know for sure which one I would take :)
