Recommend Me Some Wheels For My 205 Rallye

Recommended Posts

rallyeash

15mm x2 spacers + 309 gear = 50mm

An ET 15 offset on a 8' rim will give a bit extra just not sure then on hub clearance.

you don't need to look at total track, you need to look at each side individually.

I think to conclude a 7x15 et0 and 8x15 et10 would be usable.

8x15 et0 will require some arches to cover the poke out

Look like 7"s, less lip than the white 8"s posted, though hub could be thicker i guess.

Nah never! Don't like euro arch'd crappy uk spec 205 rallyes...... Haha

But yours is far from UK spec judging by your signature, right?

I like your taste btw, both your cars must be a lot of fun!

That's good to know. I think the revo 5 spokes have pretty good brake clearance. I may order just one single wheel and trial fit, if it doesn't work out I'll box it back up for a return.

Want them in black but seems only white are available

Tell me more about the wheels you are ordering, how heavy. my compomotives MOs weigh a ton.. need some less weight but want to retain 15x8 et0

Parry,

Info I've found

www.btrdarally.com/media/documents/1295_Revolution%20Wheels%202012%20Brochure.pdf

There's a range of option on size so for my application I'll probably go 15x8 et15 so there not stuck out a mile.

These are the ones for your needs

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Revolution-5-Spoke-Classic-Rally-Race-Alloy-Wheel-15-x-8-Escort-Mk2-Group4-Fit-/291034740305?pt=UK_CarParts_Acc_Wheels_tyres_Trims_Car_Rims_ET&hash=item43c305b651

Weight looks to be 8-9kg depending on diameter and width so it's less than a 1.9 GTI wheel!

How does the 2dr Type-R Subaru compare with the Rallye in terms of feedback/enjoyment/adjustability of lines/handling on the road? I've never driven one but they are supposed to be one of the most hardcore Subarus.

Sorry for the hijack btw!

Imprezas are fast and easy to drive,

I've had mine very sideways at 80-90mph with no dramas to bring it all back. A very forgiving car to drive IMHO, you can cover long distances at silly speeds easily.

It's a hard one as there completely different cars.

My 205 is very track focused and the impreza is in road trim.

The inpreza has a cosworth forged 2.5 engine so has bags of torque (400lbft). On the road the inpreza is easier to drive and more of a point and squirt machine. You can boot it at 30mph in second no wheel spin, no torque steer you've just got to change gear quick enough and hold on.

The 205 on the other hand if your just in second at 30, stick your foot down, 4,000rpm comes around, wheels light up, change to third and you can hold it on the limiter spinning for ages, driving style can get around that to a degree and it's on cold R888's so that doesn't help as when out on track even from the tightest chicane there's no wheel spin.

I rarely push the 205 on the road and it's not really the car to take out on a trip, I drove it 70 miles to pugfest this year and you've got to shout to the passenger and your fed up of driving it too because of the noise. Impreza is fine however here and you can cover ground very quickly and really drive it like a knob with no driver skill.

If I get chatting to somone down the pub or whatever about cars it's always the 205 I talk about and normally the impreza only gets a mention if they have a jap car too!

I had a little race between the two a couple of years back, it was when my mate owned the impreza and there was a bunch of us coming back from a trackday.

Wasn't too much difference upto 70 but then the impreza becomes In a league of its own and you can look down at the speedo is reading 140+!

205 is quicker around a circuit though!

Sounds much like the Evo's I've been in, Braking Stability (Huge 6 pots) & Speed are unbeatable but cornering speed is slow, I know when the MLR are at Combe next year I'm going to enter the 306 if it doesn't clash with anything as it should do fairly well. You should gets yours there too Ash in the invitation class

Think cornering speed is often low because there a much different animal to pedal properly! I can push my 205 hard through a bend if I want to but I'm scared to push the impreza. A properly driven Evo/ impreza should be good.

I should be racing in the French trophy/Nippon challenge at Combe this summer

My other thread on wheels is mainly cause I want to race. Cooling is poor on C5 and brakes can fade. On a track day it is ok as you can do a cool lap whereas I want to be pushing the car to the limits for the full 15 minute race with out brakes going off etc

Exactly how I felt when going from a 205 to a Subaru, the 205 is so light and you can push it to the limit and have it oversteering without fear but to do this in a much heavier Subaru at a higher speed requires big balls.

Have you thought about some pads that can withstand higher temperatures such as Pagid RS-15 grey?

Is it the pads that can't take it or boiling brake fluid?

What about air ducts for the discs, wouldn't these help and be cheaper than getting new wheels?

I've sent you a PM ;)

Brakes over heating isn't the only thing I want to stop. To be honest the 6 pots I've now fitted this are a huge amount better than the old gti6 calipers I was running. Both have track focused pads.

I also don't want to run spacers, I'm getting steering wheel vibration from them at certain speeds which isn't ideal.

Also the option of running 8' front wheels will give the car a good amount more traction and grip out on a circuit which is important if racing next year.

Other friends have found the downfall too with the C5's not allowing the brakes to cool too.

I am not a fan of spacers either.

I've had TD 1.2 in my FSTi and they are OK although not the strongest wheels apparently and one was oval from factory(!) and I had to send it back for a replacement.

Inbox emptied btw.

I experianced for the first time last practice session Pad over heating. Now that I have almost doubled my HP and moved to a pedal box setup, the brakes take a pounding. The data logger showed 1G of braking force, the previous best was 0.8G.

I am running 307HDI calipers with Ferado DS2500s, well their limit was reached and after 3 hard laps I was running out of brakes. The pedal still felt hard so it was Pad overheating.

I have now ordered some Project Mu race pads that operate from 300deg to 800deg. We should be good.

You'd need to draw that up to ensure they don't hit the coil over locking nuts.

Too true! You're on 2.5" gaz golds as well aren't you? You may need to move to shorter springs?!

Already thought of. I'll measure how much further in these wheels will sit and If I need to I can drop to a 7' spring to move the lock nut up out the way.
