Poor Old Girl

I've been hunting this car for 12 years. It was owned by a fairly distant cousin who passed away recently. I had a ride in the car in the early 90's and then again around the year 2000. The last time I saw the car was 2001. My cousin Desmond owned it since new, in 2001 in had done 47,000 miles, the rear seats had never been sat in! Desmond was a brave man owning this car, he lived in Belfast and the car was purchased when insurance premiums for GTi's were through the roof, premiums in Northern Ireland were double, sometimes triple of the UK Mainland.

Fast forward to present day and the Pug has been sat for over 2 years but still only has 65,000 on the clock.

Unfortunately Desmond lost contact with the family for several years, despite us all making effort to contact him he just didn't want to be found.

I've been in contact with Desmond's next of kin and unfortunately a local guy had an agreement to buy the car so as it stands, I'm not going to get my hands on it but will do if anything changes, fingers crossed, I'd love to have it.

Here's the old girl in all her current glory:

RIP Desmond.

Ps, if by some chance the local chap who has agreed to buy the car sees this, please do get in touch.

I'm sure you know the circumstances much better than I do but if I was you and I wanted it enough I would travel there no matter how far with a pocket full of cash and find out if this other person wants it more than you do.

The prize for best post by an insurance company is clearly yours, I can't imagine any of your competitors beating this

Circumstances are that, and as I say, there was no family contact for several years. I had a call 2 weeks ago on a Saturday to say Desmond has passed, funeral was Monday so no time for me to get over unfortunately. The local guy had agreed to buy the car and was paying in installments, there was one installment left to pay before the car changed hands. This has been verified by a neighbour of Desmond, as close as it can be. This is how it stands, I have told the next of kin I will buy the car if anything changes and I'd have my transport guy over there like a rat up a drainpipe. I'd happily reimburse the local guy for his installments and take ownership.

The next of kin is not a car enthusiast, he is just seeing an old car with moss growing on it, which is fair enough.

It's wasn't really a case of acting fast, there is an agreement in place and I have moved as fast as circumstances dictate. It breaks my heart though, i'd love the car, I'd love to restore her, despite having two other projects on the go.

You never know, things may fall through, I can only cross my fingers.

Cheers

Ollie
