Starting Problems - Electrical Problems

Hi guys,

MY 1990 205 GTI 1.9 wouldn't start this morning. It turned over a few times and then appeared to run out of juice. I have since charged the battery but there is more of a issue than I first thought.

I've had issues with starting for a month or two but have always managed to get her going. When turning the key she wouldn't turn over but after removing the key and trying again (usually 3 times) she would turn over and start. While this was happening I could hear the relay working/clicking but nothing else would happen.

Back to today;

After charging and reconnecting the battery I had power again, lights etc working but as soon as I turn the key they are cut off and will not come back on again until I disconnect and reconnect the battery. When turning the key she doesn't even try to turn over, there are no lights on the dash and I can no longer hear the relay clicking.

Any ideas guys????

I just need some advise, never a good time for the car to be out of action but even worst at this time of year.

Cheers

Steve
