Recommended Posts

Ok so the other week my camshaft pulleys shattered due to them being cracked is there and difference in the size of the pulleys as iv got a later set than the phase 1's and would also like to know how you would set the timing as I can move the pulleys side to side when there bolts aren't in right

That's the new pulley next to the remains of the old one

Not sure what youre after really but The new single bolt pulley is timed up with the centre bolt loose then tightened up after timing to lock the pulley.

Bare in mind the the pulleys have different numbers/timing hole positions on them depending on what engine/car theyve come off so make sure you've got the right ones. Other than that they're the same size and are interchangeable as long as you watch your job ;)

That's pretty much what I needed to know just coz there is 2-3 sizes of belts and thought you would loft them in place with the bolts almost like the phase 1 pulleys thanks

both the gti6 cam pulleys are identical, make sure both those hubs have the blue marking, the J4R engine uses blue on the inlet and green on the exhaust, the keyway is at a different angle on them.

as Allan said, you pin the cams in place with the bolts loose, tension the belt then tighten the bolts.

there's only two length belts, its the tensioner that determines which one you use, the 136 kit with the solid eccentric tensioner is preferred over the sprung plastic unit and 137 tooth belt.
