Its 1991 h plate. Non sunroof very straight shell. In red. Refurb beam. Gearbox new sus. Gti6 brakes etc. Fitted with a rebuilt 8v turbo with a gt28. Car runs and drives but needs an exhaust.

Any help would be appriciated.

Greenlight valued my 8v turbo cti at £2500 without me asking them too, bit of a ballpark figure even though its a soft top, have spent around 3 grand on it though over 2 years

It's not clear, but is it MOT'd if it's been sat unused? If not, you're not going to get that sort of money.

It's always hard to value non-standard cars, particularly when they've an engine that polarises opinions as much as a 2.0 turbo does - £2k does sound plausable though if it's tidy and been converted well, although it will certainly need to be MOT'd for that and personally I'd get the exhaust sorted so that it's a ready to go car.

Not really the time of year to be selling though I wouldn't have thought.

Mot ran out 2 months ago, I know it will go through no issue (once has exhaust).

Its a very straight tidy shell. Interior is very good. all tyres, brakes, suspension etc all in very good nick. the wiring could do with a bit of a tidy up routing wise but the 8v turbos seam messy anyway. has baker bm silicon hoses for the 8v turbo which weren't cheap and solid bushs etc.

It needs a new exhaust which will have to be custom, which means will have to start spending money on trailering and then shell out on the exhaust which is what i wanted to get away from.

I know will lose money but there are quite a few decent parts on it, and its a tidy car so dont want to give it away.

No MOT will decimate its value I'm afraid.

If you think about it, you might be confident that it'll go through another MOT once the exhaust is replaced, but most people looking at the car will be put right off and will assume, rightly or wrongly, that it's a 20+ year old modified car that's liable to need lots spending on it to get another ticket and that's why the seller hasn't done it. Unless it's cheap enough to take a punt on, people will just look for one that's MOT'd and driveable.

No way that you can repair the existing exhaust well enough to MOT and sell the car with?

the old one exhaust was badly made by the previous owner of donor car. it literally blew its self in two pieces and shot out the back of the car lol. but could probably get it welded but would't be a long term fix.

but i see your point so will ask around at fixing it :)

thanks

"Freshly MOT car, driveable but will need exhaust replacing soon"

"No MOT, not driveable due to no exhaust fitted"

Which sounds more appealing from a buyers point of view? If the exhaust is weldable, it's a no brainer to me if it means that the car can be MOT'd and driven away by a prospective buyer, even if will ultimately need replacing.

No MOT and no exhaust system = £1000 project that needs fetching on a trailer in my book. New MOT and exhaust of some description means it can be driven away and your £2000 is more like it.
