Changing Springs & Strut Assembly

Recommended Posts

Robbiedundy

So I'm in the middle of putting my front suspension back together and I'm changing my standard springs to -30mm ones, I took the old springs off and noticed the dampers looked different, on one of them the rubber thing was poking out the top of the boot thing (sorry I don't know what they're actually called I'm just learning) and the other one was inside the boot so I took them both off and one of the rubbers was half the size of the other one, it looks as if someone has chopped it in half? So what I need help with is where to buy a new one, should I replace them both while I'm at it, do I need to get different sized ones since I'm putting lowering springs on and should they be inside the boot or poke out a little?

Here's a pic - might help explain.

Cheers :)

Look like bump rubbers, are they solid rubber?

Dont have to be bought in pairs but their spring rates/manufacturer should match. As to how long they should be is very much a choice for yourself to make in regards to damper stroke, spring rate increase from them and what your trying to achieve.

Probably easiest to just trim the long one to the same length.

Yeah they're solid rubber, them both being that short won't like bottom out and f**k it up or something will it?

Your tyres may rub on the arches if you cut the long one down better to source another long one imo

Depends if the spring goes coil bound first and at what point the tyre comes into contact with bodywork.

Just cut the other one to the same length, will see what it's like, thank you!

I have just finished stripping my front assemblies, I expected to see them but they were not there at all on either strut
