Skinny Hose From Vacum Thing On Distributor

hi all ,

 

just dug my pug 205 out the garage as i am moving and this perfect time to get it back up and running been stored for 10 years last run about 3 years ago when i gave it a service ,just wondering where this little pipe goes noticed it hanging down from distributor while i was cutting out and recrimping wires from the brown multiplug on top of gearbox as they were corroded.

It connects to the Vacuum Advance on the side of the distributor.

 

Something to do with a electronic signal being sent somewhere. Far too technical for me!

 

I doubt it would effect your starting problem.

As said, it's the pipe to the vacuum advance unit on the distributor. When working and connected, it advances the ignition timing a few degrees under part throttle, helping to improve fuel economy.

 

It won't be the cause of your starting issues, although the small vacuum leak is unlikely to help idling.

 

The wire and three pin plug from the distributor is the timing signal to the ignition amp, and that is critical - without that, you'll have no engine speed/position timing signal and thus no spark or fuel injection.
