Brake Discs And Pads.....bendix Or Lucas

Recommended Posts

driversdomainuk

Hi

I am refurbing the entire braking system (along with most other parts!) starting with the discs and pads...

How can I ensure I get the right ones? I'm I right in thinking it is the front pads which vary or do the rear pads vary in size too?

I assume as long as it is the 1.9 GTI 128bhp the discs are all the same size?

Neither vary, a 1.9 has lucas-girling up front and benndix rears.

A 1.6 is the opposite though rears are drums.

Best bet though is to just look at what the car has, it will be obvious.

1.9 GTI's have Girling front calipers and Bendix rear calipers

Ferodo premier pads are FDB845 (fronts) and FDB558 (rears). You can find these on Amazon now!

Discs are 247mm, vented fronts and solid rears.

I have been on ECP and after adding my car reg in, it is still giving me several options for front pad size....very confusing!

I assume the correct size for front pads for a 1.9 is 105x65x18mm..? Surely their VRM lookup should realise it's a 1.9...!!

All I will say is whilst all the above posted by members is correct, if you are buying online there is a vast majority of sellers who haven't got a clue about what fits what, and will blindly send you something according to part numbers in a catalogue whether its right or not.

I buy the majority of my parts locally so I know what I'm getting is correct without the hassle of arguing the toss with a seller who doesn't have any vehicle knowledge.
