88 Stroke Oem Forged Crankshaft ?

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone.

Is there any 88 stroke forged crankshaft from any Peugeot ? I already know DW10 forged 88 with 4 counter weights but I want 8 counter weights ones for reving.

unlikely, how far are you revving anyway?

only forged 8 counterweight crank I know of is the XU10J4TE, which is 86mm, and very hard to find.

The original crankshafts are well enough balanced for a properly built engine, I know of many 8 valve XU5 rallycross engines that regularly go to 8k!

actually, I have thought of one, DW12, 96mm stroke however, though I believe if like all other PSA turbo diesels that it would be a forged item.

DW12 one with balance shaft so one of counter weight have gear. I dont want that. Also 96 stroke is to long the longest conrod can is 148.5mm with very expensive pistons.

Do you know which number stamped on XU10J4TE crankshaft. Maybe I can found in my country (I dont think so but I can try.) :)

I found the code stamped on DW12 crankshaft is 391. Is that correct one ?

no idea I'm afraid, I have never seen one.

I would imagine a longer rod than 148 can be used, IIRC Sandy has used 160mm on a 92mm crank, unless you are using a shorter block and an XU10 or XUD?

This topic created under NON XU Engines category. I'm researching this for EW engine blocks. :)

I'm reading 641. Also that engine used on Ford Mondeo etc. etc.

I have both version. 221 long one and 212.5 short one. :)

Yes there are 88mm forged cranks. From 1905cc turbo diesels. Direct replacement for any cast 88mm crank. I probably shouldn't have posted this, now everyone will be at the scrappy buying up cranks.

everyone knows that already Pete, its the same crank as the DW10 mentioned above, but he's after one with 8 not 4 counterweights.

I cant trust 4 counter weights for revving. I know alot of people using them with crazy revs but I cant. :)

And what about 86 stroke forged one. Do I have to use OEM cast crank or spend tons of money for aftermarket forged ones.

Do you know who one selling forged crankshafts for Peugeot except French specialist (they are just expensive)

9000-9500 with EW block.

I hope you're dry sumping it, the OE oil pump won't last doing that! In all seriousness, it should be making good power way before those revs and if you do want to pull those revs on 88mm, you should be thinking of getting a proper steel crank made.

You might think that the XU10J4TE crank has 8 counterweights, but it actually doesn't. They look identical to the XUD11 crank, apart from the lower stroke, and some nitridation on the journals. I have quite a few of these lying around, although most have spun a bearing, so maybe it's time to scrap'em :)

I rev the XUD11 crank with increased stroke to 94.5mm up to 8000rpm with 4 counterweights.

Schumi: If you can't trust a 4 counterweight crank, then it doesn't seem like you have any other option than getting a custom steel one, for the cost of it which is immense (at least was last time I checked). It surely can't be worth it unless you're into serious racing.

Yes Sandy I will use dry sump. EW oil pump is famous about cracking and exploding. I will use that engine on track with very long straight. And the other cars much much more powerful then me. Maybe you remember my question on EW Engine thread. I' really want to use aftermarket forged crankshaft. Engine already will use custom conrods and pistons which I can handle that cost but crankshaft. :) It just to expensive for me (at the moment)

Yes the forged cranshaft cost is 1600-2000 € for 86mm one. I'm not insistince about 88 one. It could be 86. My block is 86 bore from factory and I will use 86.5 or 87 pistons.

But I'm not sure which combination I will use. I already have a XU10J4RS (306GTI6) crankshaft.

306 GTI6 or forged 86 crank x 86.5 or 87 bore piston. Nearly square engine.

Oem or custom 88 crank x 87 bore piston. Not square again but close and more displacement.

why do you want it to rev so much? why not build it so power is lower down the rev band...?

What is your suggestion about rev limit and power band ? The reason of why I want that high revs isnt technical releated. Most of all its about my choice what I want to get from engine. I want to prepare 2 gearboxes. Very short ratio gear kit (except 1st gear) ones but one for track use one for drag use. And yes peak power isnt important when you creating a balaced car. I dont want a a car with 200 hp to 6500 rpm but 280 at 9500. Drivable power range prefered but I dont need a huge power range to. It's not be a daily drive car.

Also I like screamer engines. :) But I dont like Honda. :)

I would rather 280 at 8k not 9500.

your engine will last a lot longer if you build it like that.

280 at 8k is very much achievable

You are correct. The horse power isnt wear engine, revving will.

I have EW12 long block engine. XU10J4RS crankshaft. I will order custom rods and pistons.

I'm thinking to buy custom (87mm instead of 86 and maybe JE Asymmetrical design) 207 S2000 pistons with 24.5 height.

So If I use 86 stroke then I get 2045cc and 153.5 mm conrod lenght. And with 88 stroke then 2092.5cc and 152.5 mm conrod lenght.

It will be better than EW10 shortblock with 88 stroke 139 mm very short conrods with 29.5 piston height but when I building this engine I'm trying to getting all potential within my budged.

And I'm not limited with any regulation or rule.
