What Have I Done Here? Gearbox?

Recommended Posts

H all,

Removed passenger side shock today ready for fitment of new one. Once i'd undone the necessary nuts/bolts i began bashing the hub carrier down off the shock. On the final whack, oil began pouring out from where the yellow circle is (what i mean is it was running down to there, not out from there).

Have i simply pulled the driveshaft out? or broken a gaiter or similar?. Or have i done something more expensive / problematic?

Any suggestions or ideas appreciated. It's a 1.4 GT engine.

^^^ the shaft has just come out, push it back in and it will be fine, and check your gearbox oil level

Phew! That's peace of mind. Caught 1.5 litres of oil, probably lost 0.5 litres. Thanks for the tips guys.

Been there and done that. Its a relief knowing all is good. Just top up the oil in the gearbox if needed.

Sump plug into the hub-strut clamp and turned 90' with spanner will spread the clamp enough for the hub to pull off with a 'wiggle'. Saves smashing the s*it out of the hub!
