Removing Lpg Conversions?

does anybody know how much work is involved in removing an lpg conversion?

 

I'm looking at buying a car (not a 205) that is halfway through being converted to run completely on lpg, it seems the petrol tank has been removed also.

 

The conversion wasnt finished as it changed hands halfway through.

 

I'm wondering if I did buy it, how difficult it would be to change it back to either completely petrol or dual fuel?

 

I dont really have a clue when it comes to lpg, so i'd probably rather convert it back to petrol and sell the lpg kit on to claw back a few quid from buying it.

 

any advice?

I have LPG conversion on my 205 , so it's capable running both petrol and LPG .. and to be honest , i really like it ! it's the price of the LPG which makes running cost an real laugh when compared to the petrol , day and night difference :)
+ the LPG has more octane rating than petrol (around 102-105) and hence i run around 12.3 CR now , the engine runs much better on LPG than on the petrol (even the highest 100 RON grade) , no performance downsides what so ever at least not in my case quite the opposite i can run more ignition advance on LPG .

 

If i where you , i'd reconsider retaining the LPG system .. i know people tend to be kinda scary when mentioning LPG/gas inside they're cars (myself i was also really skeptic about this stuff before !!) , but believe me it's much safer than petrol and theres really no need to be frighten of it safety wise or engine performance downsides .

 

Still , if want to remove it , theres just a few components which needs to be disconnected and that lot can be done easily .

Depends on the actual system fitted , but mostly it's just : LPG tank , copper lines , filter , evaporator , mixer-or-injectors , coolant hoses and some wiring/relays .

First , need to turn off the gas flow via the valve on the LPG bottle , then you can start dismantling the system .

 

It is a bit strange to me that they're removed the petrol tank ?! what kind of LPG system is it ?

theres been a change of plan and I'm not buying it anymore, due to the hassle in collecting it with it being a non-runner at the moment. Thanks for the advice anyway guys, it'll come in handy in future no doubt!

No project thread i'm afraid .. the LPG conversion was completed in one day !

It's Italian LPG system called "Landi Renzo" .. dunno what you have over there in the UK , any system will do if installed and adjusted properly .

I got all the needed parts from the dealer service supply , so i'd advise to do the same - go to the local LPG system installer/dealer with your car and see what will they recommend prices parts needed etc. (also , if you need to report it to the MOT station afterwards - you'll need paperwork from the OE LPG system installer/dealer to pass the LPG inspection to make tha car road legal to run on LPG)

 

Anyways , LPG bottle is of a "wheel shape" , so we fitted it underneath the boot where usually is actual spare wheel so that the cabin insides looks "clean" without LPG bottle in the boot compartment , though even from the outside you really can't tell if the car has an LPG system .

LPG bottle is of 48 L (with full bottle i can cover around 217-230 miles driving solely on LPG) , only thing which is really important when buying LPG system is - evaporator , as a unit they're rated in few steps per KW for use on car/engine specs ie. power output .. So need to buy an evaporator which is in the KW range for use on the actual engine .

 

Other that that there's really not so much parts , it's kinda simple : LPG bottle with multi valve , length of copper line for LPG supply from the bottle to the filter+evaporator , LPG filter with safety shut off valve , evaporator , LPG ECU unit , mixer or injectors (depends which type LPG distribution you want) some wiring and relays . Most of the parts from one to another manufacturer are universal and thus interchangeable .

Apart from the LPG system , the car still retains petrol system so it can be switched on the petrol or vice verse any time standing still or while driving no matter .

 

Dunno what kind of regulations you have for LPG converted cars , over here you must report it to the MOT station for LPG system inspection after which (if you pass of course !) you'll receive an certificate with which the car becomes LPG converted and thus road legal .
