What Are The Different Engine Codes?

Recommended Posts

smm3008

Hi there,

I'm new here and have been reading through a few of the projects and getting a feel for the place since I want to get myself a 205GTI sometime soon...

So what I notice is people talking about their engines. The are XU engines, TU engines and MI engines aswell as the 2.0L 306 engine (is that one of the engine codes that I have given?)

So my main questions are which engine comes from what cars? and are the 8v and 16v engines from pre-facelift to facelift models etc...

Any help is much appreciated and I am looking forward to any replies

Thanks, Sam

Anthony

205 (1988 onwards) 1.0, 1.1, 1.3, and 1.4 models have TU engines.

205 Diesel models have XUD engines

205 1.6 and 1.9 GTi models have XU engines - XU5J for early 105hp 1.6's, XU5JA for 115hp 1.6's, XU9JA for 128hp 1.9's, and XU9JAZ for CAT equipped 122hp 1.9's

306/405 etc Mi16, S16, and GTi-6 engines are also XU engines - XU9J4/XU9J4Z for 1.9 Mi16's, XU10J4 for S16's and XU10J4RS for GTi-6

206 GTi's etc have EW engines

Hope that helps.

Would be a good place to start.

From your post, you're mixing up engine codes with vehicle models I.e MI relates to the 405 Mi16 (multi-point injection, 16 valve), which is an XU engine.

Edit: (not really sure that's what MI stands for - can somebody correct me?)

this covers the standard gti

http://www.205gtidrivers.com/articles.html/_/articles-guides/205-gti-basics/technical-specifications-r12

anything that's not a gti after 1986-87 is a TU

though before then it would be an X-series engine

this covers a lot too

the 306 used TU, XUD, XU and DW engines.

and this is useful too
