Another Horrible 205 Crash

Pictures and stories like that make me want to sell up, as they really aren't the best cars to be in during an accident.

The Dutch one is not good at all but it's hard to tell how bad the Polish one was before it was cut up.

Roads are not made for racing. Sad and unfortunate, but in aviation all this falls under "pilot error"

While I genuinely try to be a conscientious driver (not claiming to be perfect tho!), it still scares me to be sharing the road with so many other 'pilots'. It's also their error that could determine your fate.. :( ..

they're not toys...

trees don't move and I've never seen any car stand up well in these cases... but disturbing to see even the roll cage appears to be badly deformed.

we know they have the structural integrity of a quality street tin, no need to remind us!

at least they're not a crisp packet like renault 5, or worse, an AX!

The 205 GTi is still a very nippy racy car. However, most early models do not benefit from many of the modern advanced technical driver aids such as abs, airbags, traction control etc. As we know, they can be superfun cars but should be driven in the knowledge of their limitations.

Yep. I've slowed up driving the road car now. Still keen to use the rally car in future, but having dunted my head last week with quite significant memory loss I've had a bit of a scare and that was without being in a car.

100% true but it is still the same for every car... ABS and traction control changes very little and actually restricts driver control... left foot braking for example, impossible in a modern car with fly by wire throttle. It can be a difficult and tricky car to drive quickly near the limit and with hmmm, let's say at least 90% (not us of course, heh heh) of the general population being completely incompetent of driving a car quickly then is it any wonder the 205 is probably the most crashed Gti of all time... I think my point is that it's pilot error and panic and generally bad driving - not the limitation of the car.

I read a review of UK accident black spots whereby the councils knew that some areas of roads needed to be driven at slow speeds due to the shape of the road and other factors and they fitted barriers and other road safety stuff and people then thought they were OK and drove faster. It is totally true what they say, "if everyone had a huge spike in the steering wheel then we'd all drive perfectly and courteously".

I witnessed a friend roll his Mk5 Fiesta off a bank a few years ago which didn't fair too well. I dread to think how the AX I was driving at the time would've handled it...
