Toad Ai606 Advice

Recommended Posts

Gman

It's about time that I considered protecting the 205 so I am looking at the Toad ai606, as it seems to be favoured by many on here.

Looking on ebay the standard system goes for just over £100. However, there are various options that you can have, such as tilt sensors, perimeter sensors, etc. Can anyone advise whether any of these are really necessary, as there seems to be a sensor which triggers the alarm should the windows be smashed. Surely the standard alarm should trigger in the event of this??

Or is the base system more than up to the job?

thanks

Graham

I installed the standard ai606 and found it to be pretty good. If someone's going to the effort of lifting it onto a lorry then no alarm is going to stop them so I'd not bother with tilt sensors. Perimeter sensors are just another thing to go wrong and you don't want one of those alarms that's going off every hour!

I happen to be selling my ai606 as i broke the car up. Thing is it's a mess of wires and isn't labelled up though you could easily meter it out. I'd sell it for £50 though including central locking motors.

Just stick with the vanilla Ai606 - as Doof says, it's a good bit of kit and the extra sensors aren't really needed (or indeed, in my opinion desirable)

The standard ultrasonic sensors will to all intents and purposes be fine against a smashed window - someone breaking the window and the resulting air disturbance might be enough to trigger them, and if it doesn't, reaching into the car or opening the door certainly will.

The alarm part is a deterrent and the immobiliser buys you time, which is hopefully enough to dissuade an opportunist but certainly won't stop a professional taking the car if they really want it - thankfully, despite rising values, I don't foresee 205's being targeted by the same professionals that go after things like Audi RS's and high value classics like Mk1/Mk2 Escorts.

Oh, and it goes without saying that any alarm/immobiliser is only so good as the person fitting it.... and sadly, that's all too often woefully short of the standard it should be,

If you've not labelled any of the wires Doof then that alarm that you've got is going to be a nightmare to fit, as most of the critical wires are all the same colour and won't be easy to figure out with a multimeter what's what.

You're right. I should really meter it out and label it up before selling it.
