Battery Relocation.

Recommended Posts

Roon

Prepping the car to be more focused for next year

and relocating the battery is on the todo list.

151149721579 - looking at this.

The car is used daily so would this be suitable? Power wise that is.

Don't want it dieing and leaving me to bump, she's light but 800 kilos is still heavy lol.

Thanks.

Is that a gel battery, only 20ah? Is that right?

I have a normal 500ah lead acid car battery on mine and while its on its last legs (goes flat after a week of standing but still starts) after a full night of charging with a battery charger will still spin the starter for 20 minutes or so.

Unless gel batteries (or whatever type it is) kicks out more juice than a lead acid battery. 300amp/5sec cant see that lasting long if you have starting issues.

I don't think the two figures quoted are comparable, as there is an 18Ah odessy battery on that website, which has a CCA of 265A.

And I very much doubt your battery Slo has 500Ah as that would be about 3foot square! Most huge car batteries (think 5series or bigger) are 90 or 110Ah and physically would not fit in the 205's engine bay.

Roon, I think you need to find out what the cold cranking amps are (CCA) for that battery, standard is around 300A if I recall correctly, and work around that figure, especially if your using it daily.

Yeah I've emailed them to see what they would recommend. It doesn't power a lot but it needs to be reliable.

Car rarely gets left a day without being ran

Failing that ill just buy a battery box and slap my Bosch one in there but the saving in weight would be nice :)

If you're relocating it into the cabin/boot, I would opt for a gel battery, as lead acid can cause toxic gasses if they are charged/loaded too much.

(in some countries it is even not allowed to put lead acid batteries inside the car)
