Hand Barrier Creams

Recommended Posts

Guessing by the law of averages that quite a few of you must use/have used barriers creams. Can I get some recomendations please on good products to use?

FYI, I'm not a glove fan. I always find they inevitably tear, and they make my hands sweaty as f***!

I really should use it more often, but the swarfega trade stuff is good.

Have you tried the cloth gloves with nitrile coating? I use these more often than latex, no sweaty hands, saves your hands from cuts better than latex do.

No I haven't Mei. I only ever wear gloves to prevent getting covered in grease and dirt, rather than protect from cuts etc. Inevitably I still end up with flithy hands when the gloves split. Swarfega hand cleaner only goes so far when it comes to washing, so I usually end up with manky hands for a few days after. Unless I wash them with white spirit.

So figured I'd give some barrier cream a go and see how I get on.

Been a bike tech for twenty years now and tried lots of different hand cleaners and found the snap on stuff to be by far the best, if you know anyone in the trade get them to grab some from their snap on man, as for barrier cream, I stopped using it years ago as never found it to do anything but make your hands greasy so you slip on your spanners and skin your knuckles.

My father used to use stuff called Rozalex, which I believe is still made today. I tried it but just didn't like smarming stuff on my hands. I'm with you on the gloves front, can't stand working with gloves on, so much so, doing oven cleaning I was happier having my hands burnt with acid & turned brown for days, than using gloves.

Can't understand the problem with Swarfega.....unless your'e putting too much on. I've found the trick with it is actually to use as little as possible....just enough to rub into your hands, literally a small dab. Too much and you just make your hands slimy. Just a little, so your hands are almost dry, then really rub your hands and fingers together. Rinse, then wash with soap. Works for me.

Incidentally, slightly wet grass is almost as good. Dry, or very wet grass does nothing, but you'd be amazed at how much filthy oil & grease grass will get off your hands. Just don't tell the tree huggers.
