Whats This Arb?

deforming the head of a bolt is no problem at all, just wind it in by finger, that's the whole point of using it instead of hitting the end of the bar directly.

far easier and safer than trying to hold a drift whilst someone else swings a hefty lump of iron towards you.

Whatever works for you, smacking a loose m8 bolt ain't my scene, neither is having an assistant twatting a drift that I'm holding.

My way is obviously a little confusing. The drift I am on about using is a piece of 18mm ish bar with a nice flat end, sits on the end of the t/b nicely and when you twat it the bar gets a good solid whack, rather than hitting a bolt head and putting all your energy into deforming that. Each to their own.

Saying that.... The press is by far the best way

Never use a bolt, It can lead to all sorts of issues, If it's stuck WD40 will do nothing at all, so a press is the only way, the amount of times I see a good 10 tons of pressure to make one moves makes me laugh when people say about slide hammers etc

I have never had to use a press to remove a torsion bar from an arm.

M8 x 15mm hex head bolt with thick washer, and a good clout with hammer!

Job done!

Why does it need to be 15mm long? It's perhaps what I've been doing wrong?

Everyone has their own ways of doing this, I get paid by the hour so I do it as quick as possible ;)

I only use that size, as the washer is a good 3mm thick, and the bolt winds down a good way into the torsion bar.

It's always worked for me ;)
