My god that's awesome but if its functional does it really matter what it looks like as long as its fit for purpose?

by the way lmfao

When you consider the weight of one of them manifolds, you wouldn't want something like that falling off once it gets hot and the poor welds break. so much welding wire would give me the idea that there is lack of penertration in the welds so they have just filled it with mig wire

What the hell was the guy who did that thinking?

"Oh ive got a small leak, lets repair it with a bit of exhaust paste...and some more...and some more....and a kilo more"

Don't criticise unless you have done better yourself. Getting swept bends to join neatly is difficult work.

If I made that I'd be hanging my head in shame.

Welder/metal worker/fabricator or not. That's still s*it workmanship.

There's "join neatly", and there's...

Somewhere, there's a pet shop which has sold their entire stock of Pigeon laxatives.

..Tom, fess up... is that your manifold?

..Just kidding! I agree with you, a lot of us are very quick to criticize. While it's certainly not a 'looker', and I wouldnt be in a rush to put a bid in, there is still a small chance that it's fully functional, and as far as I know 'pipe length tuning' isnt as critical / effective in turbo manifolds anyway? My biggest concern would be that there's a mixture of steel / cast iron / god knows else, and that some piece of that may break away and head off through the 'exhaust half' of whatever turbo's bolted to it.

..Story time..

We were at a vintage gathering once where there was tractor pulling going on. While the show provided the venue, It was actually part of some championship, so semi serious stuff. The range in 'workmanship' was pretty big. Some machines were pristine and looked pretty awesome, while others looked awful. One particular one really stood out... Box section roll bar and bits of H section up the sides to reinforce the engine/gearbox. It had a retro looking 5 litre 'Duckhams' oil jar stapped to the side as a breather catch tank, bits of old wire to manually operate different things, and it's engine safety blanket was a big chunk of old conveyor belt with a few laps of big, crude chain shackled in place around it. The rear rims had clearly belonged to somthing else but had crude centres welded into them and the 2nd hand tyres had the tread hacked away (that explained the smell of burning rubber and the noise of a petrol driven saw earlier that morning!) The final work of art was the driver, a big bellied guy in his late 50's, who's racing overalls could only be described as a fire hazard with the amount of oil on them. We mumbled under our breaths about "the state of the thing" and as it hooked up to the sled, there were even comments like "god sake, would you not be embarrassed to bring that out?!" but we stood on just for a laugh at it anyway..

..well, we laughed alright, as the old thing revved up, spewed out black smoke, lifted it's nose in the air and set off up the track like a rocket. :o ... As the load got heavier it struggled but somehow managed to claw it's way to a full pull (100m mark) where the nose hit the ground again as the driver shut everything down with the help of a big flap that closed over the turbo intake. The sight and sound of the whole thing was fantastic and the rest of the crowd loved it too! While eating large portions of humble pie, we laughed again as he trundled into the pit area, parked it up, then poured the oil from the catch tank back into the filler (along with a little fresh stuff too).

As it turned out that 'piece of sh1t' was one of the top 4 machines in it's class and one of only two in it's class that managed a full pull on that particular day. Apparently the old fella had came in after his first couple of runs and had 'tuned' the tyres before the 'full pull' run that we seen.

I guess art comes in all shapes and forms, and, you should never judge a book by it's cover...

..That said, I still wouldn't go near that manifold!

I agree totally but there's somethings you make you should keep to yourself and not sell on, im not the best welded by anyones standard there's items I have dabbed up in the past that have proved to work well for me but I wouldn't sell them on. If something went wrong id only have myself to blame. We've all in the past dons that quick fix or oil catch tank from a garden hose and an evian bottle (or just me ;)) but to then sell that on I think is silly,

I've made manifolds and exhaust myself so I'd like to have my say.......

Wether it works or not that's utter s*it, whoever made it wants their fingers chopping off and their welder throwing down a well! I'm all for people having a go themselves but come on no one in there right mind would make such a monstrosity and be happy with it? Then try and sell it!! :P

I wouldnt have the face to sell it on either. I think I would have slipped it into the scrap without letting anyone see it. But maybe the fella genuinely thinks it could be of some use to someone.... or maybe he's not so slow after all and knows that there'll always be someone out there for it!... He's definately getting more than scrap value for it by the looks of things.
