Tu2 Upgrade

Recommended Posts

ESPANTA

hi guys

would like to hear some help/opinions/advices on a project engine i'm planing

i currently have a xsi that still has the engine full stock(well mostly), a tu2j2. and i like better the response/drivability that i have with the 1.3 rather than with a 1.6 (tu5) so i would like to build some kind of upgrade but keeping the same tu2 drivability/ engine response style

so here's the specs i'm looking into:

tu2 port/polished/skimmed head

3 angle valves

catcams springs and retainers

catcams 671

balanced rockers

adjustable pulley

tu3 bottom end(k6b) bored/skimmed

tu5jp4s(c2 vts) pistons with valve cut outs and new rings

tu5jp4s(c2 vts) polished/balanced rods

tu3 balanced crank

arp rod bolts

1.3 balanced flywheel

balanced crank pulley

obviously block refresh(retainers, bearings etc)

hybrid 1.0/1.1 gearbox

stock spark plugs(tu2 ones)

ford coil

8.5mm leads

bosch 155cc injectors

3bar fuel valve

4-1 header

2" exhaust with silencer

costum backbox

upgraded engine mounts

so this is what i've thoughted so far

but now i've got a couple doubts on where to go iet

like this

-ported/polished rallye intake with 60mm TB and raceland type manifold(could make it a daily engine this way)

or

-costum manifold with cbr600 itbs(couldnt drive this as daily this way cause it doesnt pass MOT neither the cops would leave me alone)

i already have a spare rallye intake laying around at home

other one

which transmissions sould i use? i would like a tougher ones. was thinking on a tu5jp4 ones but not sure

other one

which ecu is a good price/quality? no need for a top performace one. a good one for tuning the engine correctly is more than enough. i have no clue on this field

other

a good clutch to use? any ideas?

hope you can help me with my project

thanks :)

Hi I am not sure about this build, your taking a 1.4 block, boring it out to a 1.6? Fitting 1.6 rods And sticking with the 1.4 crank

i'm not boring to 1.6. i'll only be fiting larger pistons.

nothing that hasnt been done before already

I have never seen this done before? A standard bore of a tu3 is 75mm and is a c2 piston not something like 78mm?

I would just get a complete tu5j2 or 3j2 tbh, far less work, you can keep the tu2 as a spare or sell complete.

its been done already. and more than once.

far less work and far less fun.

tu5 its too lazy coming up on the rpm compared to a tu2. its a undersquare engine which gives it a good torque but makes the engine lazy. not the kind of life you feel on a tu2 which is an oversquare engine and gives me a lot more fun to drive.

i dont even speak about the tu3. that is the most lazy undersquare engine i've ever seen.

anyway if i didnt wanted to have some work i would just turbo it with soft pressure and leave it with more bhp and more reliable than N/A. but i dont want to

similar to that engine

but instead of tu5j4 pistons and 646catcam i'll use tu5jp4s pistons and 671catcam :)

my only doubts yet are the ones above

like this

-ported/polished rallye intake with 60mm TB and raceland type manifold(could make it a daily engine this way)

or

-costum manifold with cbr600 itbs(couldnt drive this as daily this way cause it doesnt pass MOT neither the cops would leave me alone)

this are the only parts i'm still thinking on which to choose ;)

where are the project tu engine builders? i need opinions/feedbacks/advices anything would be appreciated on the transmissions clutch and ecu to use :)

im expecting between 130/140bhp.

the intake is decided. port/polished rallye intake with bored TB
