MG Metro Turbo. First car.

Put on a K&N, a cherry bomb and some lattice wheels powder coated white.

Eventually modified the front end into a Ford Probe. Wrote off the Probe, and the MG (known as MEG) got a new bonnet, two lights and a grille, sorted for 40 quid.

Kept the car parked in my dad's yard until 2004 determined not to part with it. But my brother found a tramp had broken into it and had shat all over the back seats. So it got scrapped. Poor MEG :(

First car 205 xl in 2001.

First mod was a set of shockingly bad chrome look wheel trims, and some navy blue seat covers.

Second mod was not spending £700 on anymore Halfords s*ite and buying a 1.6 gti instead.

After the first drive in the gti, I could never understand my mates wanting to waste money on plastic s*ite to try and replicate the Astra, Nova, Golf. SRI'S GTE's etc........ Just buy the real thing.

The difference in performance shocked me.

205 1.1

quite ashamed of what I did to it.

First off took the air filter housing off so it was the exposed air filter to give it more "oomph"

Then deleted the rear lock, wiper and aerial

Realised I was wasting my money and bought a 1.6 gti

Then que a big 3" tail exhaust, blacked out rear lights and removed the tailgate panel.

Shouldn't of done any of this!

Wrote it off a week later

Beast of a Renault 19( back in 2003!), H plate 1.4 with 42k, bottom spec and was immaculate when my dad gave it to me....

By the time I'd put a cream leather steering wheel from a little 5 I found in a scrappy, some ruptured 6x9's and a pioneer head unit, she was ready for cruising!

After 3 months, the cruising had taken its toll on the old girl.... A mate of mine opened the door on a motorbike down in little Hampton, the brakes gave up and then to top it off I was making a rather hasty exit from the petrol station one day and the engine fell out!

Ended up swapping it for 2 sets of ford alloys....

Then began the 205's! :D

G plate xs was what broke me in, was a lovely shade of pink and orange, after some stickers, sun strip, tinted windows, big bore and a k&n, she was then ready to cruise... Almost forgot, I maxed my credit card on a system for it to and then I painted the rear lens's with that tint s*ite too!!

The good old days..

What a bell end I was...

First car was a 306 1.6 8v 'Vivant' in 2004.

First mod was removing the pink pinstripe down the side on day one!

First actual mod was fitting a pipercross filter that sat right at the back of the engine bay and had no real form of air feed whatsoever but the increased noise made it feel faster.

I remember thinking that fitting that induction kit was quite the mechanical feat and, not being as wise as those above who just decided to buy a faster model, a year or two later it somehow had a 1.9 mi16 engine, s16 rear beam/brakes, bottom of the range spax suspension and half leather interior....still looked like a 1.6 5dr though. :D

Remained my daily driver until late 2011....has now surrended the engine/brakes to my 205.

My first car was a Mini Clubman Estate in bright yellow. I bought it sometime when I was 16 then spent the time until I could drive repairing it and getting it ready. Mods were a set if 10" Minilite alloy wheels, a pair of black huntmaster bucket seats, a Phillips auto reverse tape player radio, and a 2" stainless exhaust tip!

Compared to most others at 6th form it was quite cool for a first car.

'TheLarneMan' ?!.. I'm a Larne man myself... it's a small world!

Anyway, first car was a 1.1 Mk2 Fiesta bought with XR2 kit etc already fitted.... first mod?.. welding on patches to make it road legal again! My introduction to the world of upside down welding and still have the little burn marks to remind me!

Next up, a 205 Junior diesel (introduction to the 205!) that got 406 15" steels with GTi look-a-like wheel trims and then got heavily modified at the front end thanks to a taxi that pulled out of a side road! The low value meant it was 'written off' but a replacement bonnet, radiator and slam panel sorted it and it was kept for the yonger ones to learn to drive in around the house.

Another 205 (1.1 Look in Topaz like shade of blue) after that, before going onto a 1.8D Mk4 escort and my 1st 'proper mods' in the form of RS turbo kit and interior, 16" Mondeo si alloys (cosworth escort look), and a turbo diesel Mondeo lump (given to me for free!) Loved it, and still have it tucked away (provided it hasnt since dissolved into thin air like Fords seem to do!)..

Ah, the fond memories of them all!.. While I'm certainly no Michael Schumacher, the little I do now about smooth cornering and 'the racing line' is thanks to these early cars, back when every mph was sacred and the smoother you were, the more of them you got to hold onto through the bends! :D
