The Life Of Me And My 88' Alpine White 1.6 Gti

Sooo...im about 3 years too late. But anyway. This is my first ever big job on a car...the car has been amazing with only having the brake servo go and dodgy set of HT leads in the time I've owned it. I picked it up with FSH only had 55k on the clock and ive loved it ever since.

Unfortunately I cannot find any old original photo's. But since then it has been lowered and has adjustable dampers. The original pepperpots were buckled so I sourced a set a speedines. And sprayed them black and wrapped them in some uniroyals. A nice little scorpion exhaust. And a air intake

After toying with the idea I kept my 205 as a weekend car

And picked up a Audi a3 which took most of my motorway miles lucky for the 205.

So yeh. I then decided to strip the interior out of the 205 and make it a little lighter. then I went and threw it around Snetterton race track and it survived. :D check out my flame

Anywayyy. Ever since that day I've become pure lazy and Peggy the 205 has taken a back seat as I have been busy at work and the Mrs doesn't particularly like me spending days In the garage.

So someone wrote off my A3. And the 205 came back to life. She took me a few K until things started going wrong. All at once. The dizzy cap seal decided to start leaking oil. The manifold cracked. Aswell the gaskets. Done well for 25 years I guess. And then the clutch started slipping

So I thought id throw in the towel. I went out and got myself a little 306 HDI To burn up the motorway.

Sooo I then finally manned up and thought id take a look at the job. After umming and arring. I decided it would make life alot easier with the engine out. So I then discovered someone already had broken a exhaust manifold bolt in the head..so I was pretty peeved. But I forgot to take pictures. Although I did get photos of how dirty the engine was :)

Yeh my old grill was smashed to bits so bought this one off of my friend. I was intending on spraying it but haven't got around to it.

As for the engine. My 1.6 seems much livelier then most of the 1.9s ive been in. Unsure of why. But if I go for a power upgrade ill be going Gti6. So atm just sticking with the 1.6 :)

For now ill keep it a 1.6 when im 25 my insurance will drop a considerable amount. Although I found this insurance company called Greenlight. Based up the road from me. That are pug specialists! And will do it cheap if I keep it under 180bhp

Yeah I'm with them buddy. 23 6 years no claims and all mods declared with exactly 180 bhp and I pay like 350 I think. Which is f*** all!

Enjoy the 1.6 and yeah upgrade when you get bored just what I did :)

Few extra goodies today. And a little bit of work and clean up :)

Heres the original reason I took the engine out. Exhaust manifold gaskets and Manifold was cracked. But some kind soul left me a broken stud in the head

Heres a new 2nd hand mani :)
