205 Gti6 Wont Start!

Recommended Posts

jameswallace.

Just 'finished' my conversion but it wont start....

Know that I have a spark and fuel and injection

Why wont it start?

The only thing I can think of is that the timing is somehow out?

But it was out of a 306 that I had been driving before? Which drove fine! So I cant see how it would have untimed itself....

What else could it be?? Any ideas welcome just getting really frustrating!

Is the ECU unlocked? Isnt there a certain way to remove it from the donor vehicle? Just thinking out loud really

If you just unplugged the ecu from the car without the key turned or the car running it'll be locked.

Is the pump priming?

Fiel pipes were actually my first error but they are now the right way around. Also the ecu is supposedly unlocked but iv heard lots of stories about them either locking themselves or never actually being unlocked in the first place!! Having said that. My fuel pump doesn't get any power so I hot wired it straight to the battery. Could that be the ecu's doing I thought it was just dodgey wiring?

But I thought the ecu also stopped the spark? Well that's what iv read anyway??

Does it even try to start? any firing at all? because if you have fuel and spark even if the timing is off slightly it should still try and fire alittle bit,

Should still prime the fuel pump even when locked.

Given the consistency of peugeot wiring looms (i.e not very). You need to confirn that the wire numbers match either side of the brown plugs, if they are not then it is easy to re-arrange the terminals by unclipping the side of the housing and pulling them out.

It is common for the igniton live and starter to be reversed.

Also as Miles said check you have power to the relay, there is more to it than just connecting the brown plugs.

Try a blast of EZ start to rule out fuel/ignition issues.

I tried again today and it tried to start a tiny bit then gave up and wouldnt just kept turning it over.

But when I pumped the throttle a bit it would occasionally pop and bang from the inlet? Any ideas?

I think my timing is just really far out?

Is anybody around the crawley area who would be able to come and have a play who might have a better idea? There's petrol money and beers in it

I'm chichester way but I don't exactly know these engines well, only thing I have to offer is I have spares ie the main 15 pin relay which could be a issue and I possibly compare my wiring etc to yours.

Failing that getting it to miles is the way to do it. He is s*it hot. Tried bumping it? As said I don't mind trying to help so long as fuel is covered as I'm off work ATM.

you don't need diagnostic kit, all you need is a multimeter, they are very cheap.

about a tenner, I would avoid Halfords unless you have a trade card, a local motorfactor should sort you out.

Dan Taylor (taylorspug) is in your area and knows these conversions well.

Spiky

So when you turn ignition on the fuel pump don't prime?

That could be your double relay, try tapping it

With ignition on you should see 12v to pin 14 of he double relay

Any issue with loom happily fix FOC
