What Loom Have I Got?

Recommended Posts

G'day all,

Just recently bought a mid project 205 ph1.5 1.9 with a 1.9 mi16 fitted. Now the actual fitment of the engine seems to have been to a good standard, new mounts, driveshafts, new gear rods and it's had a new water pump and cambelt change prior to fitment.

I bought the car as a project with the engine needing wiring in, however I don't seem to have a complete 405 loom.

I've managed to wire what there is of the loom into the 205 using the 'link loom' method but I seem to be missing the wiring for the ignition amp. Also, The engine seems to have a knock sensor and the downpipe from the 405 has a lambda sensor fitted and the loom suggests a plug runs to this.

The ECU plug is numbered 1 928 401 304, but what's it from? Why is it missing the ignition part?

As ever, help is much appreciated.

Is it a BX 16v loom possibly? They have a loom that separates into several parts, and the ignition part of the loom has the amp and coil.

Predominately green (and a few yellow) wires are a give away compared to the 405 loom.

Could also be a loom from a later car, as most mid-90's onwards PSA cars didn't no use an ignition amp. They wouldn't use an AFM either, and usually had a combined 15 pin relay rather than two separate 4 pin relays like 1.9 Mi16 looms used.

I'm fairly sure it's not a bx loom, the wires are different colours and it seems a more sensible length to the bx's.

The coil is connected already and there is a plug on the loom that fits the AFM.

Am I right in thinking that the ign amp location on a 405 would be different to the 205?

Unless I just can't see the plug for the Ign amp I'm stumped??

Odd. The ignition amp plug on the 405 Mi16 loom should be within a foot or so of the crank sensor plug near the battery - 7 pin junior timer connector.

The ignition loom is not seperate on the bx 16v, it is integral to the rest of the engine loom, as Anthony says the ignition amp connector should be near the crank sensor/afm/coil connectors, it should also have a thick green shielded wire that goes to pin 1 on the ECU if i recall, although all my experience is with the earlier 2 row looms.

The BX 16v engine loom has a seperate part that comprises the injectors/icv/tps/ect, which connects to the rest of the engine loom via two yellow plugs which would be near the diagnostic socket and the two relays.

As usual, i haven't been much help here, just clarifying what it seems you haven't got rather than what you have.

It's a 3 row ECU plug, or there are rows of Pins at least.

I don't have the ECU. I bought the car with the engine in and the sensors/icv/injectors/coil etc hooked up, everything was present on the loom at a glance but it now appears I'm missing the ign amp plug.

Welshpug,

I don't understand what i'd need to take photos of to be honest, I can't take a picture of something I haven't got. ???? I know roughly where the wires should come out of the loom for the plug but I'm damned if I can see where it is.

I've got a spare ign amp plug that has been cut from an old loom, I guess I could just connect that to the relevant ECU pins when I have it?

Ok, I've found on my loom, about 6 inches from where the coil plug comes off, a shrouded bunch of wires, a purple, a yellow, a green with a white joining on from the connector and an orange. I've done a continuity test to the ECU plug and the purple wire is the top right pin on the ECU plug when viewed looking into it.

Could this be the ignition amp plug?

I can't post a pic on my phone so please bear with me.
