Mi16 Cooling Issue

Recommended Posts

jord294

hi guys

i'll be the first to admit i am no expert when it comes to electrics. in all the peugeots i've had, i've survived on the very basics.

anyhow, i have a slight problem with my 405 mi16. basically the fans don't switch on at high temp.

the fans themselves do work, as i fed direct 12v, and both came on

according to servicebox, the engine fan temperature switch is on the o/s and low down, BUT, there is also some sort of switch on the n/s high up (just under top hose, similar to 205s, but isn't listed on servicebox for 405)

i know the temp switch in the dash works via the sensor on thermostat housing.

SO, which switch should i change?

i gather i need to get a double stage switch because of the twin fans?

any guidance muchly appreciated

thanks

Then the fans should be controlled by the thermoswitch on the radiator, which should be the switch underneath the radiator - blue 3 pin plug?.

I think it was only early 405's that had the switch on the offside lower of the radiator, much like early 205's.

ahh, ok. cheers

so if i remove the switch under the top hose and see what temp it has on it, then compare to ones listed for 205 fan petrol and xu, and go from there?

as said, there is no list for them switches under 405 fan on servicebox

appreciate the help. thanks

**will just have to make sure the connection is similar, or i found this number Intermotor 50106, when i did a search earlier**

err, not sure why you can't see the switches, there's only one listing for a fan for the Phase1 405, and it has the following:

1264 18
ENGINE FAN TEMPERATURE SWITCH
93/88 - 97/92 DEG
DOUBLE STAGE

1264 22
NFP
97/92 -101/96 DEG
- UNTIL PRODUCTION 08921217

1264 45
101/96-97/92DEG
- AIR CONDITIONING SINCE PRODUCTION 08921218

1264 44
- EXCEPT AIR CONDITIONING

1264 23
NFP
ENGINE FAN TEMPERATURE SWITCH
95/86 DEG

1264 21
97/92 DEG
- UNTIL PRODUCTION 08921217

1264 40
97/92 DEG
- SINCE PRODUCTION S8921218 EXCEPT AIR CONDITIONING

have removed switch from rad, and the only numbers that could be degrees are a 97 and 101.

it has a 3 pin inline connection.

so am i right in thinking i should chance buying 1264.44? as 1264.22 isn't showing when entering my chassis number

cheers

so its a blue topped like later 205's? I think that type will have a red ring on it.

1264 44 is a two speed 92/97 degree switch, intermotor part number 50092, usual blue JPT type plug, not sure what colour ring nit has on it.

22 is the earlier type plug and 97/101 temps as posted above.

That's the higher temp one (same temps as the earlier plug) pug part number 1264 45.

More expensive than your local factor I would think too.

personally I'd bung an 83 degree stat in if it has an 89, and use the 50092 switch.

good news !!!!

all ok now. not sure whether it was a number of things, but just to be on the safe side i fitted new relay, radiator temp switch and genuine thermostat (thanks craig). also made a small repair to wiring on relay, and cleaned up earth points.

did find that the blled screw at the top of the rad was leaking, so fitted new o ring

Good news Andy.

Never any hassle to get the NLA parts for the good people of the forum
