Coolant System

Recommended Posts

driversdomainuk

Hi All,

I am going to soon overhaul the entire coolant system of my 205...I will be eventually overhauling everything in the next few years, but need to start with this. Here is what I intend to replace:

Radiator

all coolant hoses and clips

thermostat

that metal pipe which always rusts

Questions:

1. Anything else related to the coolant system I need to include - sensors etc..?

2. Is it worth buying silicon hoses or are original ones as good and cheaper?

Thanks

Rob

You've got the main bits there, but I'd also add:

Heater matrix (if you've no history of it being swapped, as most original ones are looking pretty sorry these days)

Radiator thermoswitch

Waterpump (if you've no history of it being replaced recently / with the timing belt)

Silicon hoses I think work out cheaper than a full set of new rubber hoses (assuming they're even all still available) so it's a no-brainer in my eyes.

Check the metal parts where the hoses attach on the thermostat housing, heater matrix/bulkhead pipes etc, as corrosion is taking its toll on them on cars where antifreeze hasn't been changed when required (or worse still, run on plain water).
