Recommended Posts

Daryl1205

Was just wanting to know if any one has fitted hydraulic / gas cylinders to there bonnet to hold it up as my dad has done this with his new mg and now I want to do this to my little 205 as it would hold the bonnet better at car shows ect: when it's windy

Would like 1 at each side thanks Daryl

Fitting hydraulic bonnet struts is pretty straightforward, 106 tailgate struts fit and Nova ones IIRC.

Here are some threads to be getting on with:

I'm sure you'll find loads more if you search...

I'd imagine 205 tailgate struts would do the trick if 106 do, i have saxo struts on my 205's tailgate, they were fractionally longer.

Just did this myself, loads of searching and trying and several struts later, bought struts from a place called FK Automotive:

Hope I'm not breaching any forum rules. Delivery from Germany is more than the things themselves right now, but still reasonable.

Us (ex) Vaux boys used to fit them to our bonnets (teh FK ones are worth getting as a nice package).

Look aroudn the UK though as you can get them over here.

They work well and come with all the fittings you need.

However you do know that teh 205 bonnet hinges have th facility to lock them wide open anyway?

I started to do this on my 205, until I realised I'd need to grind a bit of the bonnet down. Haven't had chance to do that yet
