Banded Steel Wheels & 205 Fitment

Recommended Posts

GTI6BOY

I want to put a set of banded steel wheels on a 205 gti with 309 running gear and I'm finding it hard to work out if its going to work without rubbing

I will prob use a gti6 steel which is 6x15 et19

I don't want to spend money to get 5mm which prob won't be noticeable. Also the tyres will not be stretched

I think those arches on the blue car have been stretched if you look closely.

You need to get the tape measure and ruler out.

This will help.

I would use a later pug steel, they are a lot lighter.

I know the 306 arches have been rolled a bit but I don't want massive dishes, just as big as I can go under the arches

The later wheels are what I had on my cti.

What's the largest et you can fit to to a 205 without problems?

Depends on the width!

You had 406 on the cti right? I mean later, like 307, c3, c4.

They were the gti6 steels with tapered bolts

Would say this fit?

Banded steelies without stretch on the tyres.... Not really going to stretch them then..?

If you fit a 9j you'd be looking at a 245 at least... On a wider track 205 :/

I'm thinking more of a 7j wheel with standard tyres

I've got 10j on the back of mine :P the tyres on there at the moment are 215 which are stretched, but that was only because I couldn't get the size I wanted initially, so I stuck these on in the mean time. I will be fitting some 235s soon, which should be closer to the right size.

To be honest, you're gonna have trouble getting much more than an extra inch I'd say, unless you fancy doing extensive arch mods like I have.

I found a lot of trial and error is the key, especially with getting the rear beam set up right to work with the wheels, I've lost count of how many times I adjusted the rear ride height! And I've got pretty girthy torsion bars and rear arb to help out too
