Tu3S Rally Engine Help

Recommended Posts

DanThompson

Hi, I have a 205 xs rally car and it has a tu3s engine in, the engine has twin 40 delortos, a ported and skimmed head, Kent cam and vernier pulley, it also has a 4-2-1 full race manifold and exhaust. Im just wanting to know what would be the next step with this engine?

Thanks

Dan

My two pence worth - mappable ignition, assuming that you don't already have it...

You know that the ECU on the standard setup doesn't control the engine at all right? The ignition's controlled by the dizzy, and the Dellortos will be setting the fueling.

In my opinion if you want the car to produce the most it can and be more driveable you'd be better off sorting these out. People get some good top end figures with carbs but they will always be a compromise as they are almost impossible to get the fueling right everywhere. The same goes for distributors to control the ignition. With fuel injection and mappable ignition you can cure all those ills.

Don't get me wrong. I loved my Rallye with a similar setup, but I knew it was limited and accepted that. If I'd not started a family I'd have probably still have it and have got it running throttle bodies and mappable ignition by now.
