130I M Sport - Has Anyone Owned One?

Recommended Posts

Rich_p

I was wondering if anyone on here has any experience with BMW 130i M sports?

I have been looking for a Mazda 3 MPS but as I only want a silver one with low miles but not at inflated main dealer prices the search for an already quite rare car is proving difficult.

I missed out on a potential real bargain and others I've looked at just haven't been right for me.

I've started looking at other options and am thinking about a 130i M sport. It ticks the boxes I need, it's quick, should be fairly comfy and has 5 doors. Slightly concerned about the boot space but will have to have a proper look around one.

In reviews they have come a close 2nd to cars like the R32 golf etc.

I wonder what they are like day to day?

I was looking at them too (130 that is), and could still be tempted if the right E46 330 doesn't turn up. I think the MPG is very impressive considering it is a 265bhp car, mid to high 30s on a run isn't uncommon according to the BabyBMW forum. Certainly an improvement on the old M30B30 boat anchor I had in a 5 series. That thing guzzled, 20 MPG on good day!

I've owned a 1 series, not a 130 though. Test drove a 130 and was impressed. Lovely, smooth engine with lazy torque if you can't be arsed or nice soundtrack if you push on. Can't remember the stats but they're a quick car in a straight line. Great drivers position with the sports seats (and lumbar support pump up bolsters). f*** all leg room for rear passengers though and boot is just laughable. But these things were overshadowed by the drive of the car...and this was a 2.0ltr diesel, can only imagine a 130 is a right laugh to drive.

I briefly owned a z4 with that engine and the engine was the saviour of the package. It was quick, economical, nuke proof and quite possibly one of the most refined and beautifully smooth engines I have ever owned. It was sooo good I'd have another in a heart beat.

We also had a 116i for the wife ages ago so can comment a bit on practicality. It's not as big as other hatches but it's not awful. It is not a family sized car by any stretch of the imagination which is why we got rid of it. Despite the crap engine in the 116i I always liked the package and now run a new shape 125d as my daily durge machine. I tried all the new golfs, Mercs, Audis etc and it just had more life than all of them.

On the MPS. One of my mates used to work as the business manager at the local mazda shop and he had one as a company car for a bit. Generally averaged low 20s compared to the constant 32mpg I got from the Z4 caning it 99% of the time and it was quite a hateful soulless thing to drive. They are quick and they seem to have a cult following for that fact alone but if you are a lover of drivers cars (which clearly you are since you are on here) you might be better placed to spot the flaws.

I looked at the 1 series but it was no good for me as the boot is tiny (width and depth, and with a 6ft driver you can't get out the back seat without crawling out.

Suggest you go play with one, ad it might fit what you need it for, but wasn't for me.
