1.6 Gti Brake Squeal

Recommended Posts

johnnyboy666

I've got a case of the squeaks. I'm guessing I didn't lube up the caliper the correct amount when I fitted them, so a few questions:

Is copper grease the way or is there something better to use?

Does it go in the slider bits or on the piston? Or neither/both?

calipers were as new refurbed 6 months ago and the discs/pads were brand new at that time

Cheers

John

it could be degrading rubber hoses becoming 'furry' and perished, not letting the fluid back up the tube easily.

Squeal doesn't really come from the pad to calliper, Its the pad material and the disc thats the issue

You don't want to get copper slip anywhere near the piston or sliders, it will damage the rubber boots and seals.

Silicone grease for the sliders , copper or moly grease for the pad to piston contact area and pad tabs to caliper area (on the end of the pads which contacts/rests on the caliper) .. apply in small amounts .

If you can find Ceramlub grease , that one is best for braking stuff .

Anyways , i agree with Miles . Try few harder braking from higher speed , in order to "burn off" possible contaminants from the pads/discs .

The brakes perform best when properly beaded in (includes minimizing sequel appearance) , so try this :

... i always do this when fitting new pads or discs , or both .

Did you fit new discs when you installed the calipers/pads. Was the oil from manufacture on them removed with a good cleaner.

Could it be the wear indicator. I find on one of my cars (non peugeot), with a certain brand of pad they squeal like hell when cold/wet.
