Exhaust Back Box

Recommended Posts

roccorich

My back box has a hole in it so ive been looking at new ones.

All the ones I have seen for ctis/gtis have the connection to the centre pipe where its just a bit of pipe with two slits that you clamp on.

However mine seems to have the kind with the two flanges that mount together. Like all my 106s have had.

Ive seen this kind also on the lower powered 205 exhaust on ebay.

So has somone fitted an exhaust from a smaller car to mine or is it possible to get both kinds of connection?

cheers

Rich

You need a back box for the later system. As said its the olive fitment. Early cars had a 3 piece exhaust with the sleeve fitting. Later cars had a 2 piece system with olive fitment.

You will find the backbox here (they generally supply bosal or walker):

for comparison here is the early system:

And finally the very late version with Cat:

Im pretty sure that once I undo the olive connectiob that the front pipe will need replacing too...

Which is a pain as the rest of the front pipe is fine.

ECP do, or used to do Walker.

Every piece of exhaust related stuff I have had from ECP has been advertised as a brand different to that you actually receive so not going down that route again!

If anybody wants me to get exhausts from the factor its no problem, I would say call them yourselves but you wouldn't achieve the discount.

Do the walker ones still have the divided downpipe, or have the switched to plain like everyone else?

I got the split pipe, but was told that was all the stock they had left on them.

Its blowing on the underside where the brackets welded on.

Gonna see if anyone local can weld it.

If not ill try bodging with some alluminium tape we use at work.

works well if you can wrap it all the way round and back onto itself.

All wrapped up...

Ive pulled the bracket off the exhaust as it was almost off anyway then wrapped around the silencer with tape. and used a huge metal clip to pull it back into place where its now missing a hanger. Took it for a good blast and it seems to have held up so far.

Had a better look at the rest of the exhaust and I was mistaken as it seems I have the sleeve type so when I do end up changing it I should be able to just change the back box.
