Loose Plugs

Recommended Posts

roccorich

I noticed this plug when I bought the car and the previous owner was unaware of what it was for.

Then today I found this plug. It comes down by the passenger headlight area.

Should they be connected together and what are they for?

I didnt want to just do it and blow something.

The one on top of the engine has 3 pins with a wire into each and the other has 3 pins but only two wires and the wires look thicker.

Cheers

Rich

Neither of those should be connected to anything. The front one is for testing the fan and the rear one is for checking the ignition timing with a machine Peugeot dealers used to have. Definitely don't connect them together.

Cheers.

Good thing I showed some self restraint and asked first.

If it wasnt for the different thicknes, colours and numbers of wires I probably would have as they do reach each other nicely and they are the same colour....

I'm pretty sure they are keyed differently anyway.

That would make sense to prevent idiots like me trying it.

Isn't that front one for the high / low speed fan resistor? The fan test plug usually has three wires in a five pin plug iirc.

Just checked my spare fan loom and yes, that's the plug for the fan speed resistor. The test plug has three thinner wires going to it rather than two thick ones as pictured.

Yes, you're right, sorry roccorich, you need to plug that one into the low speed fan resistor, here is a photo I've taken from another thread:

Cheers guys.

I've just been to look and found this resister on the nearside of the radiator.

The plug fits in both ways so which way do I plug it in?

Also whilst looking for where the plug had gone I found another resister tucked behind the nearside headlight as well as this bracket and bolt.

The bolt has a plastic sleeve on the shank?

Any idea where they are from and where should the other resistor be mounted?

Cheers

Dim-dip resistor?

If so, then the best place for it's the bin...

err, nooo

best place for it is its original position clipped to the headlamp panel under the nearside headlamp, the clip has often rusted away.

Its had a 1.9 engine conversion by the previous owner but still has a 1.6 gearbox and reverse is top left, must be bits left over from the engine swap.

The radiator fan seems to come on far too easily then stays on for ages so Ive ordered a switch from eurocarparts. ivr gone for the one with the temp ranges

92-87/97-92
