Valve To Bench Non Contact Proof :) :)

Recommended Posts

A few of you may know i had a for sale post in the for sale section up on here a couple days ago listing a head with a twin carb inlet manifold.

Well i had someone on there comment about be leaving the head face down witch he said it would have bent the valves and i would in turn be selling a damaged head to someone.

The thing is though, i am not stupid, i have been in the automotive industry a long time, im not going to just leave a head on a bench face down with the valves open.

This head in question had a inlet manifold attached to it, with as most people know the XU 8V engine slants towards the bulkhead and the cab manifold sits flat, witch means if you were to put the head on a flat service it would sit angled as the inlet is propping one side up.

I did try to explain this severall times, but i just got told i was trying to rip someone off selling them a damaged head.

Anyway here are the pics for proof that i was not selling a head that had been sitting on its valves just to assure everyone :) and the hater that wasn't even interested in buying it just wanted to put people off...

I know its not ideal leaving a head resting on the valves but its hardly going to bend under its own weight, what did that person think a valve was made from, manifold on or not im sure he would have known you wouldnt have dropped the head down from the top of a step ladder, just someone with nothing better to do than ruin things for someone else.

Without wanting to get involved in the likelihood of bending in any way, this pic could easily be interpreted as showing some open valves resting on the bench...

What this other person seems to forget is that it's easy enough to demonstrate to any potential buyer that the valve seats are sealing - just rotate the cam so both valves are closed, and fill the chamber with petrol. Any half-aware buyer would want to prove that to themselves before installing, and quite likely before paying.

The valves in these heads have huge stems compared to valves of engine i take apart at work, like the bmw ep engine fitted to the ds3 the valves and collets are tiny! theres no way you are going to bend one of these valves resting the head on the bench even without the manifold
