Rear Apex Shock Absorbers

Recommended Posts

Conflict

Hi,

Just been looking at fitting some rear Apex shocks to my 1991 1.9 Gti,

Just taken off the existing KYB shocker, and the bolt holes are different sizes on one end.

The existing shocker has one M12 bolt and one M14 bolt securing the shocker at either end; so it has holes to suit the bolts on the shock absorber.

But the new Apex shocks have 12mm holes on BOTH ends, anyone know why?

Shall I just use a M12 bolts both ends then use some sort of bush to increase it to 14mm where it passes through the mounting?

Suggestions... Thanks.

Chris

Are you sure they are listed for 205 gti?

Personal preference is genuine Peugeot shocks

Hi, yeah. Deffo the right shocks.

Just checked the part number stamped onto them

7071100 comes up as a 205 Gti (all models) shock absorber.

They must have had the wrong bushes fitted then.

Hmmm... Maybe drill the shock absorber and make a new bush then?

Strange.

I've checked the KYB shocks too and that part number 444 091 also is for 205 Gti.

You'd need to press out the wrong bush and press in the right one if that is actually the problem.

However, as jord294 said, Peugeot dampers are very good, almost certainly better than Apex ones so I'd just stick with the originals or get some better condition used ones if yours are leaking etc. Unless you spend a lot of money it's hard to beat the original dampers.

I bought a full Apex lowering kit off ebay for £140, that was nearly new. They retail at around £300. I'm rebuilding the front suspension and these shocks are part of the kit. The fronts nearly done... So I'd prefer to stay with the Apex one's on the rear so I have a full set-up.

Can you put up a pic of the old shock vs apex please?

I'd like to see the difference in diameter of the main body and the rod

Change of subject a little, does anyone know where I can get a replacement nut for the TOP of the FRONT suspension strut assembly?

Not the 3 small ones that hold the assembly to the car, but the big one on the end of the strut that keeps the front spring from just springing off during assembly.
