Why 205 Gti?

Recommended Posts

Bushie94

I've got a classic mini 1.3 and a smart car 0.6. The mini is great fun and I don't want to get rid of it but I'm looking to sell the smart and possibly getting a 205.

I was just wondering what's the best thing about them and why do you keep yours?

As above.... find one and take it out for a drive. I got rid of my last 1.9 approx. 8 years ago and four weeks ago I bought another one.. All the memories came back straight away. They are light, fast & comfortable. They have a lot of grunt considering the weight they have to push along. If you take the plunge you won't regret it.

it's knowing you've got better taste than the person sat in the golf next you at the traffic lights, or going along the motorway and passengers taking that longer than average 'glance' at the car next to them.

My advice, for what it is worth....

don't buy the first one you see..... read the buyer guide before you go see any.....to spot the signs.... signs = money.

Then, go see a few and take your time to get the best you can for your $........ if you can't afford a good one, don't buy one for the sake of it.

If you get a good one, you will love it, and it will likely take over your life trying to make it better.

I like this, its the best way I've heard the ownership of our cars described in a long time.

This, think of the 205 GTI as a modernised classic Mini.

Many friends that owned a 205 GTI when they were originally the big thing in hot hatches also had Mini's in various states of tune when they were popular in the 80's & described them as a civilsed modernised Mini with just the same feeling when you drive them yet with none of the Mini setbacks.

It's just the way the 205 GTI talks to the driver which makes it a close cousin to the original mini imo, you drive them by the seat of your pants.

As said, drive a good one & you'll soon see why.

That is very very true. I have known a few people who have had bad experiences of 205 GTI's and ask me why I bother, when they have driven a good one of mine they immediately understand.

Very much so, I've driven some fairly clean ones that drove awfully, and some ropey dogs that drove fantastically!
