Floor/foot Rest?

Recommended Posts

mmt

Hi

In most rally cars there are bolted a foot rest in on the co driver side... For obvious reasons. On many race/rally cars there are however also bolted a floor plate often aluminium in the drivers side. But why? Is it for safety reasons and if so how does a aluminium plate on the floor add safety?

Why would you want to raise the floor by adding such a plate in the drivers side of the car?

Thanks.

afaik, there is a reason, mainly to cover the master cylinders (clutch and brake) for the floor mount pedal box

or someone wants a flat floor when all sound deadening is gone

When you remove carpet/sound deadening your feet can be up to an inch lower, a false floor would lift your feet back up to put your them in the correct position on the pedals.

A foot rest (in Motorsport applications) is used to help brace yourself during Cornering and stop your foot flailing around or bracing on the clutch pedal.
