No Brakes After The Car Sitting For A Couple Of Weeks.

Recommended Posts

Anyone else experienced this.

Came back from a trackday two or three weeks back, everything fine, no issues, put the car in the garage, and left it. went to go for a drive today and no brakes, pedal to the floor with very little braking force and pulling to the right slightly. Pumping the pedal it felt as if there was no real pressure. Checked the fluid, all fine, no leaks on the brake lines , also did a quick bleed to check for air, all okay. Is there a reason for this, running 206 gti180 front set up, drums on the rear and standard GTI master cylinder.

Very strange, it seems that the car sitting for a few weeks, just lost all brake pressure, but fluid fine. Any ideas? Possibly faulty servo?

Master cylinder failed?

Pumped up the pedal and wedged down, left for 20mins, just went and checked several times and the pressure is there, all seems fine now This is strange why would the pedal go just sitting with no use??? happy to change the master cylinder as not taking a chance with the brakes, quick one though as using the 206 calipers am I better putting in a bigger MC From a 406 or stick to standard 205 GTI MC, if 406 a better option, which one suits.

Depends which calipers you have and how long you mind the pedal being

There are a few different piston sizes, as there are master cylinders.

Larger mc will give shorter pedal but less pressure at the caliper, hence modern cars having higher servo assistance.

I currently have the 206 GTI 180 calipers, went back out tonight to check and pedal gone again, the car will stop eventually but foot to he floor, I do prefer a longer pedal, as I prefer to feel my brakes rather than have the servo do all the work.

I wonder if worth changing the whole servo and Master cyl, the car had been sitting for five years before I stripped and rebuilt it, the brakes have been excellent, until yesterday, just seems strange for them to give up like that, it honestly felt as if there was a leak in the system, looks a nightmare job, should have done this when the engine was out
