Hey everyone,

 

Need a bit of advice on the best way to drain down my power steering system and what's the best fluid to refill it with?

Are you just renewing the fluid? I undo the return pipe from the bottle stick a bolt in the end then drop it down underneath the car, let it drain into a container and run the engine at idle until its empty/dripping but don't overdo it the pump needs the fluid to lubricate itself, as soon as it slows to a drip shut it off.

Yes Andy,i just want to drain the system down.

Use automatic transmission fluid (I know it sounds strange but it's the right stuff) you can get it from halfords or any motor factor in ltr bottles

Yeah I've heard there are certain fluids that can't be put in the system,so you're suggestion doesn't sound too far fetched Aiden.

Yes red auto transmission fluid its just hydraulic stuff with red dye so you cant mix it up with jack fluid
